Do you remember where you were?
Season One of BTN, and I didn't get it. Ohio State had just played Youngstown State on BTN, so my wife and I (no kids, yet) went to BW3 (that's Buffalo Wild Wings, for you youngsters) to watch the game. Michigan took control toward the end of the game, after Ohio State beat Youngstown State, and we had shit to do, so we left the bar. We had to go to Best Buy for something. As we were walking in, another guy was walking out, saw me in my Buckeye jersey, and he asked if I heard about Michigan losing. He told me about Appy's field goal and then blocked field goal to win. My wife remembers that because she thinks it's funny that some stranger would just come up to us and start talking about it.
Do you remember where you were?
Another BW3 story. I didn't have tickets to the game, but I went to Columbus with some friends to visit some other friends. We were over on the west side somewhere - Grove City, maybe? Anyway, not much to tell. I remember the one guy wasn't really a football fan, yet, but he liked hanging out. There was a penalty on Michigan for running into the punt returner before he caught it. We all started cheering before we even saw the flag. My buddy started cheering too. I said, "Do you even know why you're cheering?" He said, "Not really. But it sounds like something good happened."
Do you remember were you were?
Grandparents' house. That was Thanksgiving weekend, and the tradition was that they liked to have their Christmas tree set up during Thanksgiving weekend. But they went to visit my aunt in Texas that year for Thanksgiving, so we went to set up the tree as a surprise.
I could probably tell you where I was during any other game since then, too. My wife laughs because my memories are sorted by which Buckeye games were happening at that time. "Do you remember in 2004 when we visited so-and-so?" "Yeah. Dammit - that was the same day Ohio State lost to Northwestern. Thanks for reminding me."
