ttun Shenanigans and Arguments (2015 official thread)

Buddy of mine was at the Downtown Athletic Club for the event that they have there every year. Was sitting with a 2015 recruit who was in attendance with his dad. Said that everyone he'd talked to (that is, other 2015 recruits) think that Harbaugh's, "an asshole."

Take it FWIW
I think it's common knowledge that harbaugh can be an asshole. He can be crazy and lively but he can be a huge dick. People play for him because he is known as a good coach. Whether or not that is true I don't know but he is definitely one of the better at least top 20 maybe top 10 in coaching. But yes everyone seems to agree he is a prick.

Not "can be" IS. Harbrau IS an asshole. I agree that he has demonstrated an ability to get results on the football field. I'd be willing to agree about top 20 coach, but I'm not so sure he's top 10. Potentially could be, I just don't know yet. Clearly an upgrade of Fred Flinstone though

Similar to what happened in SF, I want to see how he is tolerated if the W's aren't there in any given year.

The bullshit vs production scale is always at play and as long as your production outweighs the bullshit you will be okay.

Problem is the bullshit side of the scale never gets zeroed out, so once the production isn't there to counter it..........

Running a major CFB program is about managing the relationships and recruiting much more than being a great X & O guy on the field. Being a world class dick makes both of those problematic.

I'd give him top-20, but given his limited track record in major cfb, I have a hard time saying he's ahead of a number of guys that have proven much more at the college level. Yes, he did a very nice job at Stanford, a traditional whipping boy in the Pac-10. But, before his breakthrough 2010 season with a once-in-a-generational talent at QB, he had the same kind of success guys like Dennis Green and, yes, Tyrone Willingham had there.

As a Niners fan, my opinion of his coaching abilities took a serious hit in 2014. Yes, the Niners were plagued by injuries, but his stubbornness on the offensive side of the ball cost them a few games. Also, his "big game" coaching against Seattle in recent years and in a couple of playoff games, the Super Bowl in particular, left a lot to be desired. Plus, he's prone to some absolutely asinine challenges.

I'm an upgrade over Fred. Then again, I would've told them to [censored] themselves had they offered me the job.

I would take the job, then immediately install the single wing offense, the innovative 1-9-1 defense, and stop recruiting any players over 150 pounds.
For a 7 figure income I would take the job, and can truthfully say I would not intentionally sabotage the program. Of course, the fact I have not coached football at any level might limit my success. And the fact I would spend more time fishing than actually recruiting or coaching might have a negative impact. Not to mention me openly rooting for tOSU might have a slightly negative affect on team morale. But I wouldn't intentionally sabotage them.
