ttun Shenanigans and Arguments (2015 official thread)

It's cute how Michigan fans think their new QB is mobile.

As mobile as Kapernick, perhaps? Harbaugh sure managed to make the most of that in San Fran this past season.

Or maybe as mobile as Mariota?

Your OLine is still garbage, your recievers are still garbage, and your RBs are still garbage- but I guess congratulations that your new true freshman is slightly less than a cement shoed statue?

Your fan base has been so spot on with your evaluations and excitement levels in the past.

Didn't you just feel the excitement oozing from my post? It was just a question since I've seen him compared to Navarre (which makes a little sense they are both are tall and actually kinda look a like) Then it was said he had limited mobility. I didn't say he was Mariota, But to pretend he is a statue back there is inaccurate. He rushed for over a 1000 yards and had 22 tds his SR season. I honestly still like Malzone better than him. He is also more ready at this point then Gentry. I don't think either start, but if one were to start IMO it would be Malzone. I'm glad JH is actually trying to build some depth at the position though. Since BH would only take one QB a year. Not to mention he took Bellomy in 2011 and none in 2012 so basically none in back to back classes. Shane in 13 which i've never been high on him at all him being a 5 star was a joke. Speight I like but we have yet to actually see him in a college game.

The point about Mariota is that Ohio State's D has recently dominated an extremely experienced, extremely mobile QB in an extremely innovative offense.

The point about Kapernick is that Harbaugh has proven he can squander even the most mobile QBs with lackluster coaching.

In summation, have fun with that.

I wonder if all the tsun fans who think Harbaugh is a quarterback whisperer watched the 49ers ridiculously inept passing offense last year. I'm guessing not.
It's not like they don't have decent receivers and a running threat... don't think Crabtree has developed as they hoped he would, either that or Kaperneck is not the QB he seemed to be.

Or maybe Harbaugh is not the coach he seemed to be just two seasons ago.

Kaepernick was horribly mismanaged by the Niners for most of the last two seasons. Their OC tried to make him a pocket passer behind an injury ravaged OL, and the results were predictable as Kap struggles mightily reading defenses and with his decision making. On the rare occasions they turned him loose with his legs and worked in some read option, they were much more successful.

How much of that is Harbaugh/Roman's failure to develop him as a pocket passer, or them just trying to pound a square peg into a round hole is hard to tell. Guess we'll know more as the new staff gets a crack at him.

As for the 49er running game and receivers--well, like I said, they had serious OL issues, so the running game struggled at times. Their receivers weren't really up to snuff either. Crabtree hasn't been the same since his Achilles injury in early 2013. Boldin is still solid, but he's older and more of a possession/move the chains guy, and Vernon Davis is either getting old or was just banged up all year. Plus, they never figured out a consistent #3 receiver behind Crabtree/Boldin. They traded for Stevie Johnson before last season, and he was productive on the rare occasion he saw the field, but they never worked him in consistently. They also failed to develop a few higher draft choices at WR.

All in all, last year was not a shining coaching season for The Harbrau and his staff in SF. I think some of it was injuries, some of it was failure to develop much depth despite a plethora of draft choices over the last 2-3 years, and (I suspect) some of it was the coaching staff having one foot out the door.

I still think The Harbrauis a very good coach, but as a Niners fan, my opinion of him and his supposed midas touch as a HC took a hit over the last 1.5-2 years. He'll make them formidable again, but I'm not as sold on him being the miracle man I thought he was early on. Fact is, he took over a fairly stacked SF roster and got the most of them. He deserves credit for that. He also deserves some criticism for a failure to develop many of the guys he drafted/signed in his 4 years...as there aren't very many contributing much, especially on offense. In fact, the guy at the most important position, QB, regressed considerably during his tenure.

Regardless of Gentry's ability he almost has to be a significant upgrade from the QBs currently on scUM's roster.

Considering Michigan has been playing WRs at the QB spot for the past six seasons, you're not exactly going out on a limb there.
I assume you aren't including Tate Forcier in that time span which is hilarious in its own right.

So really, Chad Henne was the last "good" QB to suite up and without his "fuck it I'm going deep" security blanket named Braylon Edwards he really wasn't anything better than serviceable.

So that takes us all the way back to Navarre who is the comparison everyone jumped to make in the first place.

Someone will have to fill in on what Navarre was like (other than tall and doofy) because I was still in high school and not paying too much attention when he played.

Am I missing anyone?

Well, I have a significantly sized boulder in my back yard that once beat John Navarre in a footrace.

Ohio State - will have a full blown competition for QB, and probably use all 3 because they're all Heisman candidates
Michigan - will have a full blown competition for QB, and probably use all 3 because it's a dumpster fire.

Life is good.
Yeah.

Ohio State-
  • Braxton Miller- Two time B1G OPOY, back-to-back top-10 Heisman finishes.
  • JT Barrett- B1G record holder for TDs in a season. 11-1 as a starter. Top-5 Heisman finalist in 2014. Shattered numerous team/conference records in one season as a starter.
  • Cardale Jones- Undisputed National Champion QB, 3-0 as a starter against the #11, #1, and #2 teams in the country. Howitzer arm that displayed nice deep touch and ability to fit ball into tight windows. Mack truck that eats nose tackles for lunch on 3rd down. Conqueror of worlds, master of all he surveys.
scUM-
  • Shane Morris- Scooter, bracelet enthusiast. 0-2 as a starter. Laughably bad in limited playing time. Quite possibly the most underserving 5* recruit in the history of undeserving 5* recruits
  • Russell Bellomy- Helmet misplacer, has completed as many passes to opponents (4) as his own team (4) to this point in his career. <20% career completion percentage (to his own team).
  • Wilton Speight- Classic big tall goofy scUM QB. Yet to play a college down. Lightly regarded recruit. Named "Wilton."
  • Alex Man-zone- True frosh.
  • Big Mex- Classic big tall goofy scUM QB. True frosh.
