Harbaugh is definitely a NFL coach. Truth be told he wasn't bad.

In CFB you have to manage kids. Be their best friend. You have to have patience for Gen Z kids.

Harbaugh comes from the old mold. Just do what I tell you. It's that easy. Harbaugh is also aloof. He's not a people person.

In the NFL that's fine. You can also lose a few in the NFL and nobody bitches. In CFB losing one is deadly. You don't have to stroke people. Either they produce or they are out.

I think Harbaugh's recent nice words about the York's probably indicates a peace with where his true talents lie.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in the NFL soon.
Who would hire an average to above average Colllege HC as an NFL HC? ScUM backed up the Brinks truck for him and he hasn’t given them close to a return on investment and the longer he stays at scUM the worse his Chances of getting a HC gig in the NFL will be, imo. He could maybe be a coordinator for a Ravens sometime...
But his act hasn’t worked really in a CFB, his biggest recruiting wins happened due to him hiring players’ HS coaches or family members, outside of also a legacy instate kid, scUM hasn’t come even close to OSU in recruiting let alone any of the national powers.

That's what I was saying. He doesn't seem to fit in with CFB. I think he could do fine in the NFL, and will probably be sought after when or if he wants to go back.
Do you think he'll be sought after with no conference titles, no CFP appearances, and only some 9 and 10 win seasons to hang his hat on? That doesn't scream elite coach

See, I initially thought the opposite. I thought with the steady roster turnover of cfb, he would be less likely to have players burn out on his tactics and be less likely to lose a locker room.

But I don't think it matters. The manic, singularly driven psycho coach Jimbo was is gone. Nobody can convince me he isn't medicated. He seemed to flip from having one or two sideline tantrums every single week to a dead eyed borderline vegitable almost overnight. Something happened to him after The Game in 2016 when his antics cost them.

Now, in 2020, he's a below average coach that seems disinterested, disorganized and doesn't care to put much effort in to recruiting.

I think @osuvictory1 pretty much nailed it. He can get away with stuff in the NFL that he can't in college. In college, he is directly responsible for the composition of his team via recruiting...in the NFL, a head coach get overridden all the time by general managers and owners for draft picks all the time. You might have 6-10 picks in a draft depending upon past trades...in college you have to get at least 22-25 commits--with rare exceptions--per recruiting cycle. In short, there is just too much going on in the college world for for a Asperger's goofball like Harbaugh to effectively handle, but NFL head coach responsibilities are few enough and narrow enough for him to handle. Plus he can initially sell himself to NFL team based on his past "NFL success" at SF, and having TFUN pretty competitive over his tenure. I would not be surprised if Aspbaugh bolts for the NFL next year after we plop 70 on him in The Shoe in November...

There are many mediocre NFL coaches that just seem to hang around and jump from team to team.

Now Urban, I don't think he has the temperament for the NFL. He is too competitive, and isn't ok with other people dictating the nature of his team. Jimmy Johnson did it. I guess it would be a wait and see.

Folks, please remember that this thread is for legitimate news and reasonable discussions/opinions about Michigan recruits (who at this point, we should also remember, are simply being recruited by Michigan - some of them might actually end up signing elsewhere, even Ohio State).

So please, while you are here, keep it clean and polite - no swearing, no bashing, no hate. There are plenty of threads in the CFB Forum where you can discuss Michigan football, players, coaches, fans, etc. in the appropriate manner. You know where to find them.

Not disparaging the kid; 250-ish-lb offensive guards are going to need a season or two in the weight room before they see the field for a P5 football team (and I'm guessing that number might be slightly inflated).
