Michigan Wolverines prioritizing another five-star quarterback recruit, adding intrigue behind Bryce Underwood
The Michigan Wolverines made a program-altering splash a few months ago, adding elite five-star quarterback recruit Bryce Underwood to their 2025 recruiting class. The move sent shockwaves through college football, as the team flipped him away from the LSU Tigers and proved that Sherrone Moore was a serious player in recruiting.
The Wolverines aren't done yet, however, and have their sights set on adding another five-star quarterback to the roster behind Underwood as they continue to revamp the quarterback room.
Ryder Lyons, the third-ranked overall quarterback recruit in the 2026 recruiting class, visited the Wolverines this past week and came away feeling like he was "their number one guy".
As soon as new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey stepped foot in the building, he began building bridges with Lyons, setting up the future foundation he hoped to use to land Lyons as another talented signal caller for Michigan.
However, that has raised some eyebrows, as they would have two back-to-back five-star quarterbacks, which normally could cause some controversy centered around the future of the position and inevitably point to someone potentially portaling out.
That's not the case here for the Wolverines. Lyons will be stepping away for two years on a mission trip. By the time he returns, Underwood will be entering his third year on the team and potentially ready to declare for the NFL Draft at the end of that season, allowing Lyons to sit behind him for a year before assuming the mantle. Assuming all things break right for Michigan, this would be an easy transition from one talented signal caller to another.
