ttun recruiting (all classes)

Only 3 of their 10 current commits' are in the top 200 of the composite, and they aren't really in the true running for very many other top 200 guys.

This is not how a school who has made the playoff each the past 3 seasons and is coming off of just winning a national title should be recruiting.

3* LB Chase Taylors commits | Class of 2025

Coach Moore is on a roll!!!

Also the "decent offer lists much better than ranking" logic has been applied to every one of these guys.

Looks like their main real competition for this one was Georgia Tech though.

Assuming a handful of the kids are talented enough for a playoff caliber team, the issue is that it will be 3 years before being a fully developed player.

The part that pays off for Scum is if they can keep a steady stream of kids, there can be a built in form of dependability, where OSU may have pocket years, where a slew of more talented 4 and 5 star kids are 3 and out, and OSU doesn't get to enjoy the players full potential.

Scum seems to be following the Tressel playbook. Good not great, but dependable.

Times were different when Tressel was coaching. Now I think it would be much harder to consistently be a national title threat using that model. If you get that consistent flow of players progressing and hitting a strong peak every 3/4/5 years, now with the 12 team playoff maybe you're a threat to make the final 4 once, possible twice a decade if you really hit paydirt.

Let's not pretend Tress was bringing in a parade of 3 star gems. He and his staff had them to be sure, but (and to your point) one of those 3 stars wouldn't recruit himself to Ohio State today. Tressel and his staff also hit on some major 5 star talent, including Claret, a heisman winner and the highest rated QB recruit of his time (Pryor) just to name a few.

All to say, I don't see scUM replicating any Tressel model.

I agree with playoff part, however, I disagree with you on whether their system can work today. It can, but they have to catch teams in transition years. Scum's big issue is usually they get a few high star skills players sprinkled in with the 3* developmental players. At least this recruiting year, Scum has missed out on high star skill players, and the one they have has injury issues.

I think the problem for OSU the past couple years is losing it's stars at the 3 year mark.

They really didn't have any "high star skill players" who contributed the last 3 years, outside of Donovan Edwards. The higher rated WR in the 2018-2022 classes was Tyler Morris who was the #18 WR in his class

Their higher rated recruits tend to be on the defensive side with the occasional OL.

Building up the OL to have a constant flow of game ready super seniors and sprinkling in some effective transfers is really what made their offense work enough to win a lot. Well that and knowing exactly what was coming from the defense. Tight End play tends to be pretty good as well but the WRs are duds for the most part.

In the case of being "fair" they did finally add another top 100 player though as well

This was fake news, scUM people jumped the gun and said he was committed because he posted the same types of positive twitter posts every recruit does about his visit.
