He has definitely recruited well, which given his pedigree is not surprising. However, I'm not ready to crown him as a particularly good coach just yet. He put together a good team this year with some shrewd transfer additions. But, a few of their games i watched had some head scratching decisions in-game. I tend to think the B1G was wildly overrated this season (as their tourney performance showed) and scUM had a nice run against a "meh" conference.

I want to wait and see how he does next year with a young, rebuilt roster.

Isaiah Livers says goodbye to Michigan basketball, will not return for another season

Isaiah Livers' Michigan basketball career is over.

The senior forward bid goodbye to the program on Thursday morning in a tweet. A program spokesperson later confirmed Livers' tweet was indicative of his decision to move on rather than take advantage of the NCAA-granted extra year of eligibility.

Fellow U-M seniors Mike Smith and Chaundee Brown have also passed on the extra season, but senior guard Eli Brooks will return for next season. A program spokesperson confirmed Thursday that Austin Davis will also not return for another season; Davis was a fifth-year senior in 2020-21. Walk-ons C.J. Baird and Luke Wilson will not use the extra season, while Rico Ozuna-Harrison is "not expected" to use the extra season, either, and Jaron Faulds is still deciding.

Michigan basketball lands transfer PG DeVante' Jones from Coastal Carolina

Coastal Carolina transfer DeVante' Jones, the Sun Belt Player of the Year and one of the best available point guards in the portal, committed to Michigan on Saturday.

Jones chose the Wolverines from a final list that also included Texas Tech, Texas and Memphis.

"I had a great relationship with coach [Juwan] Howard," Jones told ESPN. "He was just understanding in my whole thought process, and during the Zoom call, he told me how I would fit on the team and showed me their style of play. The Michigan fan base showed a lot of love, and the Michigan players were showing love as well."

The 6-foot-1 Jones was one of the best players in the Sun Belt Conference the past three seasons and one of the most productive mid-major players in the country. He averaged 19.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.8 steals last season, while shooting 36.8% from 3-point range. As a sophomore, Jones earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors; he was Freshman of the Year in 2018-19.

Just sayin': He sure didn't look like a "lottery pick" to me. He didn't do much in the games against Ohio State either, i.e. 9 points (2-4) and 8 points (2-10).

Chris Webber: Michigan AD Warde Manuel apologized for 2003 fallout

After years of friction with his former school, Chris Webber said the University of Michigan took a step toward reconciliation with a simple gesture: an apology.

Webber, the Fab Five star who will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, told ESPN that Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel privately apologized to him for the way the school handled the fallout of an investigation surrounding claims that Webber had accepted money from former booster Ed Martin.

Manuel, who was hired as athletic director in 2016, played football at Michigan from 1986 to 1989 and worked for the school in the early 1990s when Webber played in Ann Arbor.

"I was told by the athletic director at the University of Michigan that he was sorry," Webber said during a wide-ranging interview at his home in the Atlanta area ahead of his Hall of Fame induction. "And he wasn't even there at the time [I was playing]. He told me that he did his research and that he needs to apologize. His exact words [were] he needs 'to apologize to the 18-year-old Chris Webber because we didn't protect him.'"

In 2003, Webber pleaded guilty to a criminal contempt charge in federal court and admitted -- after a previous denial to a grand jury -- that he had repaid Martin more than $38,000 for what he said was a loan he accepted while he was a player. Martin had testified that he had given Webber and three other Michigan athletes more than $600,000 combined throughout their careers.

Let me get this straight, Webber knowingly committed NCAA violation(s) by accepting money from a booster, got scUM multiple NCAA penalties, and was even guilty of a criminal charge; and the scUM AD apologies to Webber.
