Michigan Wolverines AD denies making apology to Chris Webber

Just when it seemed as if the University of Michigan and Chris Webber had taken a step toward reconciliation, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel denied the former Fab Five member's claim that Manuel had apologized to Webber.

Webber, who will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, recently told ESPN that Manuel had apologized to him for the way he was treated during a 2003 investigation that led to his 10-year dissociation from the school.

On Friday, Manuel said Webber's account is not true.

"I enjoyed the conversation with Chris when we met several years ago," Manuel said in a statement through the school. "But I can assure you I made no apology to Chris and, for those who may be curious, I never asked him to apologize to the University of Michigan. I wish Chris nothing but the best, and I'm happy that he's being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame."

Webber told ESPN that Manuel privately apologized to him for the way the school had dealt with the fallout of an investigation surrounding claims that Webber had accepted money from former booster Ed Martin.

Lots of "hang the banners" chatter and then this

I love how much that game eats at them.

These guys probably nailed it:

Chris Webber has been lying about just about everything since the Ed Martin stuff came out, and it's obvious. He threw Ed under the bus, has fired vague shots at Jalen, backed out of the doc, and now in these interviews has given his version of events which has continued to be incomplete, inaccurate and inconsistent.

It's honestly sad, because he's out here projecting a God fearing, spiritual image while not coming to grips with his own actions. He honestly can't be honest about his own feelings, and in these interviews has said other dumb shit like he'd rather be a leader on a team that doesn't win a championship than a role player (specifically a veteran star who joins another star's team) who wins one.

The worst of it is he plays the victim when he has caused the most harm to his teammates, and then has the audacity to call out Jalen for "code breaking" when Jalen has been explicit and consistent about everything that happened. Jalen has been obviously honest especially on things that put him in a bad light. Chris Webber is a phony, but in the end his extraordinary talent got him rich and in the HOF. I just wish Chris would get over himself. I don't believe a word he says when it's his word against anyone else's.

TL;DR - Chris Webber is a phony, but in the end his extraordinary talent got him rich and in the HOF.

There is a reason why TNT let him go this past year. He thinks the world of himself when he's just not that great of a person.

Season prediction
As stated above, by all accounts, Michigan will be in the top tier of the conference along this season. Dickinson will again be one of the top players in the conference — if not the top player — and Brooks is one of the most valuable players in the conference, because of how good he is at so many things.

The Wolverines went 23-5 last season and made it further than any Big Ten team in the NCAA Tournament, losing to UCLA in the Elite Eight. This season, they will look to build on that momentum with the new talent Howard has brought to town.

Michigan basketball is keeping it all in the family. Juwan Howard's son, Jett Howard, committed to Michigan on Wednesday. The four-star prospect will be one of the big headliners in Michigan's class of 2022. The 6-foot-7 wing picked Michigan over Florida, Georgetown, LSU, N.C. State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

"It was a tough decision because I was seriously looking at Tennessee," Jett Howard told 247Sports' Brandon Jenkins. "But it was just the family atmosphere obviously because of my dad. I also feel I will have a good opportunity to play right away. I honestly like how everybody is treated the same around the campus. I paid attention to the little things when it came to this recruiting process and that stood out along with the culture and environment of the program."
