The storm surge predictions kept rising so we evacuated out of Naples this morning. We and the dogs are now safe in Miami. Our house survived the first surge and high tide at 3 pm. I’m hopeful that we will survive the 3 am high tide. Our house is less than 1/2 mile from the gulf but is much closer to the small bay and the canals near Vanderbilt Beach.

Our friends on the fingers were not so lucky. The best result was 4’ of water in the house. The worst was a total loss with water up to the roof. One friend and his family are not accounted for but cell towers are down all over the area. As bad as Naples is I feel even worse for Cape Coral. Over 400 miles of canals and nowhere to go for those who stayed and far too many stayed. We almost stayed but came to our senses hen the surge estimates kept rising and rising. Sanibel and Captiva are even worse. I fear that a lot of people perished in this storm.

I did what I could to save the wine before I left.

Glad you got out. All the videos I’ve seen from that area are terrifying.

No storm surge to our house. We have no power or water so we are holed up in Miami for now. Now hopefully power comes back sooner than later which will be good for the wine.

It's beyond really bad over there. I hope I can drive over on Sunday to grab some clothes as we left with clothes for a few days. Ian is now putting a hurt on other parts of the peninsula and Charleston, SC may be in for a world of hurt as well.
