oof.

that's some Hurricane Harvey in Houston type numbers.
i don't care how well an area typically drains, very few places are capable of handling 8 months worth of rain in a 24-48 hour period.

Hopefully that doesn’t play out with the Euro looking ultimately correct and this keeps moving and does vacate the area for the most part by Friday morning. But it still sounds like rainfall totals of up to 1.5-2’ could be possible despite it not stalling out and lingering.

The videos out of Ft. Meyers look bad with the storm surge, but the one I’ve seen of Cape Coral looked completely different and not as bad (just across the river, so not like it’s far), so I’m not sure what to expect for them.

The wind is picking up in my area now. As usual the worst looks to be hitting where I am overnight, which I hate.

The storm surge predictions kept rising so we evacuated out of Naples this morning. We and the dogs are now safe in Miami. Our house survived the first surge and high tide at 3 pm. I’m hopeful that we will survive the 3 am high tide. Our house is less than 1/2 mile from the gulf but is much closer to the small bay and the canals near Vanderbilt Beach.

Our friends on the fingers were not so lucky. The best result was 4’ of water in the house. The worst was a total loss with water up to the roof. One friend and his family are not accounted for but cell towers are down all over the area. As bad as Naples is I feel even worse for Cape Coral. Over 400 miles of canals and nowhere to go for those who stayed and far too many stayed. We almost stayed but came to our senses hen the surge estimates kept rising and rising. Sanibel and Captiva are even worse. I fear that a lot of people perished in this storm.

I did what I could to save the wine before I left.
