cooked two huge pots of Jambalaya and 2 more big ass pots of white beans.
14 loaves of bread.
2 ice chests (90 quarts) loaded with a variety of soft drinks and water.

336 servings total.

loaded up about 140 in my truck and wife and i delivered down my bayou to all the linemen working down each and every street in rainy nasty conditions.

took just under 2 hours to deliver.

man them dudes all were truly a genuinely appreciative to get a good hot meal brought right to job site instead of the regular burgers and sandwiches they been getting.

Great to hear...I'm actually a Lineman..on an ice storm 20 or so years ago in southern Virginia, guy came out with home made cinnamon rolls his Wife had made and instant coffee he'd made on the wood burner..damn fine breakfast, made us feel good when we got their lights on.

I'm sure everyone was greatful Nutriaitch, nothing like a great meal when you've been eating out of a bag for a week or two.

Glad your power and water are back..we don't realize how we rely on them until we don't have them.

that’s why we did it for them.
everyday there are 2-3 spots here in town giving away hot meals. But they set up a spot and you have to go get them. And you’re limited to however many people you have in your vehicle. So if 2 people in your car, you get 2 lunches.
Problem is these linemen can’t leave to go pick them up. And even if they send one guy, he can’t pickup for whole crew.

so that’s why we did it this way.
got us a crew of about a dozen people.
Cooked it all, packaged in to go plates, then hit road to hand deliver.

Awesome thing is that about 95% of them are from out of state. So the moment we said “Jambalaya”, their eyes lit up.

4 different Leaderman asked me point blank “you have power at your house yet? Where is it and what do we need to get you up and running?”. (there was already a crew on my street at that time).

i landed a gig doing damage assessment for the parish on grand isle.

OH
MY
GOD

the entire western end of the island is straight up decimated.
in some spots there is literally no evidence at all there was ever a man made structure there.

in some spots there are rocks waaaaaaay too heavy for 2 men to lift 75 yards from where they originated.

in other spots there is just a jungle of pilings with no camps on top.

this shit is unlike anything i’ve ever seen.

we’ve spoken to men in their 70s that have never left for a storm that said they will never stay again. Said this is not even in the discussion worst they ever witnessed.

it legit looks like on the ground pics of Hiroshima in ‘45.

their is now water in place that were once solid land.
and solid land in place that was once water.

i’ve “assessed” multiple properties where i’m taking pictures of an empty lot of just sand. As in no evidence at all that there was ever any sort of structure on site.
Nothing. just an empty lot.

NOTE: if i had to tell you the absolute worst place on the entire planet to ride out Hurricane Ida (a very strong Cat 4 / probably going to be reclassified as a Cat 5 storm), it would be Grand Isle, LA.

they got the extreme edge of the Eastern Eye Wall.
Meaning Maximum winds and Maximum surge.

The sheer level of destruction is impressive and terrifying at the same time.

so as of Friday with a hair under 2,500 structures assessed:

Roughly 16% of them are classified as totally “destroyed” and cannot be repaired. Would have to be leveled and rebuilt from scratch.

Around 12% are listed as “major damage”. This means parts of it may be salvageable, but most likely will be easier/cheaper to tear down and start over than it will be to repair. These will need to be built to current codes now making it even less feasible to just repair.

these numbers will likely go up noticeably during “Phase 2” is evaluations when they actually start entering structures instead of viewing from edges of properties like we did.
