Trading Kevin Garnett?!

Another question in regards to that proposed deal, is Al Jefferson and Boston's #5 pick enough for Minny to get in return for Garnett? I would think that another draft pick or two would have to be coming their way as well.

Or does Garnett's monster contract hurt his value here?

Apparently, right now it is being reported that the 4 team mega-deal involving KG is dead. Stating the Celtics did not like what they were getting, no surprise. Apparently this has led to Plan B for the Wolves and Lakers.

From SI.COM:

Minnesota owner Glen Taylor was expected to be in the Timberwolves' offices this morning before departing for a honeymoon in China. His appearance at team headquarters suggested a quick resolution on the Lakers' proposal, which includes forward Lamar Odom and center Andrew Bynum. However, sources said that Kevin McHale, the Timberwolves' vice president of basketball operations, wasn't keen on the Lakers' offer. In another scenario, the Lakers could include center Kwame Brown in the deal and also acquire Troy Hudson or Marko Jaric to address a need for a ballhandling guard while lifting an unfavorable contract off the Timberwolves' books.

No shocker there, if the Lakers by some mystery made this happen Kupchack would look like a god of a GM. The main issue is that I don't think there's a whole lot the Lakers can offer for any big name.

If Phoenix manages to get KG, look out, they will be a force but Minnesota doesn't seem keen on having anything to do with him, he doesn't want to go to the Celtics, this is looking more and more like a fire sale.

The sick part is Ric Bucher was saying that even if the Lakers get Garnett that Kobe would still want out? WTF?????

But back to the question about whether Minnesota is getting enough, Al Jefferson and the #5 pick actually isn't that bad. Al Jefferson is younger and while not as good as Garnett you don't have that big of a falloff. Then Minnesota has #5 & #7 in a talent rich draft. THEN throw in the amount of cap space Minnesota would have next year makes the Boston package the most appealing.

The problem is KG doesn't want to go to Boston and it seems like they are having a tough time finding a 3rd/4th team.

They may as well trade Pierce to anybody who'll take him. It's not as if anybody they draft will get to shoot the damn ball so long as he's around.

Pierce put up good numbers, but he is vastly overrated. Hell, even Tracy McGrady can get a team into the playoffs almost by himself. Send his ass to Charlotte or the Grizzlies.

Garnett talks now include Suns' Stoudemire and third team

There was a growing sentiment around the league Tuesday night that the Kevin Garnett sweepstakes are nearing a conclusion and that the Phoenix Suns are the most likely winners, with two trade scenarios emerging that could potentially land Garnett in the desert by draft night.
With the Los Angeles Lakers' attempts to construct a multi-team deal or a direct trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves collapsing, ESPN's Jim Gray reports that talk of a potential three-team trade that would involve Minnesota, Boston and Phoenix has been rekindled, in which the primary cost to the Suns would be All-Star forward Shawn Marion moving to the Celtics.
Yet an even bigger trade concept, ESPN.com has learned, was hatched Tuesday by the Wolves, in which Phoenix would likely be asked to trade away the player it has been trying not to trade, All-NBA center Amare Stoudemire, who would go to the Atlanta Hawks.

Garnett to Suns deal 'overblown'

BOB BAUM

Associated Press

PHOENIX - Reports the Phoenix Suns were nearing a deal to acquire Kevin Garnett were downplayed Wednesday by an NBA official with knowledge of the situation.
Contrary to several reports, the official told The Associated Press, the sides were not close to a three-team deal that would send Amare Stoudemire to Atlanta and Garnett from Minnesota to Phoenix.
Publicity regarding the Suns' possible acquisition of Garnett had been overblown, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the subject. However, the Timberwolves and Suns have talked about Garnett, the person confirmed.

Fascinating. A bag full of stiffs for Kevin Garnett. Yeah, sounds about right to me.:roll1:

Well, they have to involve Telfair and Ratliff's expiring contract to get the money to work. I would also assume, and have read, that there will be future draft picks involved as well. Getting Al Jefferson (emerging as a potential star big man) and Green plus a couple of first rounders would be a pretty nice deal, IMO, in return for a guy that has no intention of re-signing in Minny after his contract is up.

And no, I am not a Boston fan whatsoever.

Great move for the C's. Now is the time for the East to be had...and just about anybody you can sign with Pierce, Allen, and Garnett can get the job done. They've got Gomes (serviceable), Big Baby Davis (possible draft steal), Rondo (high energy), and Tony Allen (good number 8 guy). I don't think Kendrick Perkins is ever going to contribute significantly, but, all in all, that's a very good team in the East.

Are Green and Jefferson stiffs? They both might be down the road, really, but it doesn't look like they are going to be out of the league any time soon. If Green can average 10 a game, and Jefferson goes for 10-10, then it isn't the worst trade for Minnesota, given their youth, Garnett's mileage, and the lack of getting anything for him if his contract just expires. Minnesota could do better talent-wise, but they obviously like the contracts best of all.
