PS One really cool effect that I just remembered from the eclipse in the '90's--I was in my daughter's school yard, that had a number of trees around it. At the height of the eclipse, the shadows of the leaves on the ground were sickle-shaped...all these shimmering little crescent moon shaped shadows. That kind of fascinated me, it was so unexpected.

I was in grad school in Athens for the last one. As such, lots of trees. Can confirm. It was one of the coolest effects of the eclipse.

Hasn't quite reached the C'bus area yet, another 20 minutes or so to start. So, of course, right on schedule, in the area that a few days ago was shown as all green on the viewing maps--the sky's completely clouded over. Also, the heat index is currently at 102F. Typical. :pissed:

On the plus side, at least I didn't drive a couple hundred miles, camp out with port-a-johns for three days, and spend a couple grand on a trip to get here.

Maybe I'll open up that extra bottle of Martini&Rossi left over from New Year's Eve and drink a toast to ExPat.

PS Nominee for the dumbest thing anyone has discussed re the eclipse: Is it safe to take your pets outside since they won't know it's dangerous to watch the eclipse?

When have you ever seen an animal stare at the freaking sun for any reason?
