Last year Scout listed 16 prospect from Penn who were rated 4 or 5 stars. PSU landed 3. (OSU took 2 of the top 6).

In 2007 there were 21 and PSU landed 7, including none of the top 5.

In 2006 PSU got 3 of 16 - none of the top 3.

In 2005 there were 10. PSU landed one.

Care to compare that to Jim Tressel's success in Ohio? If somebody came here and took 2 of our top 6 fans would be screaming.

Just like they were in 2003, when Michigan signed Burgess and Crable. Fortunately, things have changed for the better in Columbus. In Happy Valley ... not so much.

Where were you LJB? Don't you remember that we didn't want either one of those kids? :)

But to make your point even stronger - there was a lot of gnashing of teeth over those two. Yet JT landed 7 of the top 8 rated players in the state that year.

And while I am on this horse - if you go back as far as 2002 PSU has plucked 5 kids from Ohio - none with OSU offers.

Yeah but zordich's father played for Penn State, he was a legacy. So you can't really count him. Outside of that they havn't done anything in ohio.:oh::io:
You guys almost seem to be taking pleasure in the fact that Penn State is recruiting their own state so poorly. If you're tired of the SEC talking about how garbage the Big 10 is, Penn State needs to step up their game. They've underachieved more than any Big 10 school this decade.

You will never stop SEC fans talking.

I'm getting away from rooting for the rest of the B10 to be tough and do well and all that and just taking simple pleasure in watching teams I hate get killed.

Agreed, just pointing out that there was one kid(a PSU legacy) who made the decision.

Even their one victory over us instate was only because of the legacy factor.

I don't expect PSU to have the same type of sucess OSU has in-state since we do not have an in-state school like Pitt to contend with. But 1 of the top 10, 3 of the top 16, 7 of 21 - that is just terrible. It would be nice to see PSU getting 7-8 of the top 15 kids, Pitt 6-7, with maybe a few venturing out of state. With their success in Maryland, PSU would be sitting pretty if they could get half of the top kids in PA with a few other OOS recruits.

It's good if your an TOSU fan, but your right it's bad for the Big Ten. If the big ten is going to get more respect nationally Penn State needs to step their game up. I said it before and i'll say it again Penn State needs to make a change starting at the top with JoPa. He's lost his ability to relate to kids and thats why the top kids are leaving Penn and going elsewhere. It seems they have given up on recruiting alot of kids in Penn this year already and it's only the beginning of june. Most of there recruits are out-of-state players mostly from maryland and the D.C area.:oh::io:

I know you all might laugh at me now but Cincinnati is a program in the big east on the rise. There never going to land five or six of the top ten in ohio, however they can get one or two. Most of their players come from either ohio or michigan. Ohio State can't get everybody in-state and uc is becomming a respectable program. Eventually uc is going to get a kid TOSU wants, just like last year when Cordale Scott picked Illinois over us. Uc recruits the cincinnati area hard and eventually one or two kids are going to decide to stay home. I live in cincinnati and can already see how much more respect they gey locally from fans and playerrs that in previous years was absent. But i think illinois might be are biggest competition in ohio. Zook has been recruiutng ohio like he coaches here. It seems like he has offered a ton of players in ohio. Both Cincinnati and Illinois are going to get better and thats going to make it harder on us. However with that said we get guys to the NFL more than both of those schools could dream of, and we compete for national championships year after year so we will get the top players in ohio, however a few might get away. Many of you might disagree, thats just my opinion.:oh::io:

Well we did get 5* PA OT Eric Shrive, and when players are re-evaluated 3* PA OT Mark Arcidiacono is going to be a 4* recruit

Whoa, I guess I didn't realize that. You guys are definitely in a position to be throwing away recruits to OSU. We haven't landed any talent like that in years.

You've got to be kidding me.

Well we did get 5* PA OT Eric Shrive, and when players are re-evaluated 3* PA OT Mark Arcidiacono is going to be a 4* recruit - kid had nearly 15 offers from the likes of ND, UF, Penn State, USF, WVU, Rutgers. OT is a huge need and we filled it in-state, with two kids who are not afraid to mix it up and are aggressive run blockers. Production matters, and Penn State will be going for a fourth straight 1,000 yard rushing season this decade while cracking 2,000 yards rushing with LJ JR as well. Why we have trouble grabbing a top 10 RB year in and year out I have no clue, but Evan Royster is going to be pretty good.

Doesn't look like an offer is coming from Penn State for Tyron and it doesn't look like a ND offer will be coming either. Kid definitely has a lot of talent though, I wouldn't be at all shocked if you guys were looking at him as a DT. He is athletic & lanky...if he can pack 30-35 pounds on his 6'5 frame he'll probably be a very good one too. I'd rather see Ezell at tOSU than UM - I don't think UM is going to get that much talent for the trenches in the '09 class. It appears many viewed Sean Stanley as their most prominent option and they never even had a chance, Sean visited over 10 campuses but fell in love with Penn State. Once Penn State started loading up on MD players and he talked with LJ it was a wrap. Sean is going to be sick as the successor to Maurice Evans.

If we get MD DE DeOnte Arnett or MD DE Jason Ankrah were going to be even more stacked on the DL...we return 16 deep on the DL for '09 not counting any incoming players from the '09 class and I would be absolutely shocked if 10-12 of them weren't all 4* recruits.

is your PSU infomercial over yet?

but yes, psu can simply turn away DL recruits because their 16 deep DL gave up 200 yards rushing to an injured chris wells and company at home at night with the self-proclaimed best LB core to ever be assembled.

can we split off the PSU garbage? I'd like to continue bashing the PSU trolls but it shouldn't be in a recruits thread.

That was my subtle suggestion  Anyways, the point is certainly being made that OSU has stolen more out Penn than PSU and vice-versa. While they have had a couple of nice classes, they have been dominated in-state. If PSU wants to be back to prominence, they have to do well in PA, in addition to Maryland and the East Coast. Shrive helps of course but they need to continue to grow. Pitt is landing the PA talent and if they don't do much with it, the door will open back up to PSU. However, it is nice to see OSU stacking up the PA talent in the mean time. It's going to be nice to see us take Brown, Hall, and Bell out of PA this year.
