tOSU's BCS Bowl possibilities

I think Utah vs. SEC #2 will be a very exciting game. So will a Cincy vs. ACC Champ game. A game doesn't have to have Ohio State or two top 5 teams to be an exciting game to watch. Maybe I just like college football, though. I'm a fan of Ohio State first...but those would be some great games to watch as a college football fan. I just hope Utah gets a crack at the #3 team...because I think Utah deserves it. They have played a tougher schedule than people think, and haven't lost one game. Not easy to beat three top 20 teams, and win the rest as well. Their SOS is similar to USC's or Penn State's in my opinion.
Jeff Sagarin and his computers do not agree (schedule rank in parenthesis)

I agree with you about all of those teams except for Utah. I think they are an excellent football team.

While we are on the subject, Utah's seniors would be Urban's last class correct? Appears as though he left his replacement something to work with.

While i'll root for UC, they- along with the ACC rep, do not deserve to be there. Utah, however is very deserving IMO.

Weak ass schedule. Have them play in the big ten, sec, or big 12 and see where they stand.I don't mind a team like Utah getting a shot but I don't want them getting a shot without a playoff system in place..The BCS is same old tired excuse of a system. No difference in the Capital One vs. the Fiesta..

Both will be against a good team
Both bowls are not national title games

They played and beat three top 20 teams. They also beat Air Force, who is a pretty good football team. I also think Utah would do very well in the Big Ten this year.

Yes, Utah had to face a few more bottom feeders and nobodies than USC or Penn State had to...that is just how thier conference is...but they played just as many top 25 teams as these teams did, if not more. I mean...Team A could play the #80 ranked team every week, and Team B could play the #100 ranked team every week, and then play the #10 ranked team. Give me Team B if both teams are both undefeated. To me, it's games against the top 25 that matter more. And above that, Utah didn't lose...and those teams did. Last time I checked...the poinst of football was to win. This isn't Boise, or Hawaii. They haven't played nobody every week. They've played about half thier games against nobody, but the other half were actually good games...and teams like USC and Penn State and Florida have lost one of these type of games this year. Utah hasn't. Sagrin might have them low, but I know one of the BCS computers has them ranked #2. I know their BCS computer avearge is higher than Florida or USC or Penn State. This is probably because the computers don't give a crap what conference you are in, but care about who you have played and what your record is.

They beat TCU who played nobody..BYU who played nobody and is mormon..and oregon state who lucked up big time and got drilled by penn state. People rank them good because they love the under dog..Coaches rank them cause they don't give a damn.. They don't have time to rank..So some bum ranks it for them. Very well documented this happens and i have personnally been told it happens. Playoff system is needed now more than ever. Otherwise you are going to continue to see lopsided games in primetime and still not getting the answer you are looking for..Who is the best?

You must just like watching college football because Cincy, ACC, Big East and Utah are like watching two flies Fu@#... Terrible BCS potential this year even if ohio state somehow makes it. I want the best possible teams playing eachother. Not #4 vs. #25!
BCS isn't about the best teams...it's about pitting BCS conference champions against each other and against great teams. It's incentive to win your conference. If you don't believe that winning a conference means anything, then fine. Maybe those conferences aren't as good as others, but I do like watching conference champions get something to play for. I would love a 16 team playoff where EVERY conference gets a spot. That'd be spectacular. But we have what we have...and you act as though unless a team is not a top 10 team, then they aren't worth watching. Like UC and BC and FSU and teams like that don't play great football. They do. They aren't crappy programs. If all you care about is level of talent, then why even watch college football? Just watch the NFL. There are going to be a lot of great football games all bowl season long. Sure I don't want to see mismatch games. But Cincy vs. Florida State would be a sweet game. Great game. Utah vs. Alabama would be another great game. No blowouts there...great matchups. Then Penn State vs. Oregon State. Well it's Pac Ten champ vs. Big Ten champ. So if the Rose Bowl makes you yawn, then fine...but I love the tradition there...and I love watching the Big Ten champ vs. Pac Ten champ match-up. And then a fiesta bowl with USC vs. Texas. Well now that is probably a better game than Ohio State v. Texas, trying not to be biased. So I mean...the BCS to me is very exciting if we don't make it. And if we do and we play Texas, and USC plays Penn State...it's still exciting. Now if it were like Alabama vs. Cincinnati and Florida State vs. Texas...then yeah, that wouldn't be as exciting.

Not much I can say. I think its a waste to have those scabs teams in there. It doesn't mean I am right! I like watching Ohio State football and great football in general. I believe in competition and what it stands for. I believe that if you suck and play no one then you shouldn't get rewarded. I believe without a playoff of some sort its hard to find out who is the best and who isn't. Glad you like watching football. Not in this to debate really. But to me the BCS is a joke! College football deserves better...

So are you saying that if you aren't in a BCS conference then you don't play good football?

1) I agree with JXC totally. This ain't the NFL, this is college. Plus, it seems like every team is being hated on by someone or another. Oh, Cinci sucks, they play in the big east, thats awful. FSU is playing mediocre in a terrible ACC. Alabama has lucked out in an overrated SEC. Tex/Oklahoma owning up B12 teams who have no D. Etc.

They're all good, with flaws, and who knows what will happen on any given day?

2) That being said, I must say that I'm surprised there's so much hype around Utah. I will certainly watch their BCS game- again, who knows what can happen- But this IS a team that got their early hype for barely beating TSUN. So I'm more confident in the BCS teams... At the same time, I have faith that there's a really good chance they'll play lights-out in their bowl and there could definitely be an amazing game there.

Oregon St was a good win, but the 25-23 squeaker against scum looks weak at this point. I know "a win is a win" but c'mon. I think Utah would be a middle of the pack Big10 team, and third best in the MAC. So unless they play in the Orange, I think whatever bowl they are in will be a waste of time.

Still, in my opinion, they deserve to be in a major bowl, same as Ball St.

Those potential match-ups pale in comparison to what you could do with PSU-USC, and an Ohio State-SEC match-up. I also think a Utah-ACC would be a nice undercard. At least I'd like to think it'd be a hard-fought contest.

Utah-Big 12 #2 would be nice for proximity's sake.
