THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

It appears a surging Ohio State team will get a chance to restore its battered national reputation in a bowl game, but there's no guarantee it will be a Bowl Championship Series game.
Moments after beating Michigan 42-7 on Saturday, Buckeyes players were looking ahead at possible destinations.
"It better be a BCS game, that's my only requirement," receiver Brian Hartline said. "The Orange Bowl would be a huge honor, or Fiesta, whatever they're talking about now. All of them would be a huge honor."
But they're also all a huge "if."

This may very well get me blasted, but who cares.

I'm pulling for Oregon State this weekend. My reasoning has nothing to do with tOSU. I realize the potential ramifications; however, I have to pull for a team that hasn't been to the Rose Bowl in 40+ years (that isn't in the Big Ten). Furthermore, it would take something away from "the greatest college team ever assembled in the history of man". I just find it humorous that the 5th ranked BCS team may not get the Pac-10 auto bid.

If Oregon State wins the Pac-10, you're looking at potentially the least compelling BCS matchups in the history of the standings.

Penn State-Oregon State rematch? (yawn)

ACC Champ-Big East Champ? (double yawn)

SEC #2-Utah? (wake me up for the championship game.)

I understand that.

I absolutely agree. I love watching the Rodgers boys play and the progress Oregon State has shown over the course is quite impressive. I would love to see a rematch between between Penn State and Oregon State. This Oregon State team is much better than the one that got mauled by PSU earlier.

However, if the Beavers were to lose, I wouldn't be terribly upset since it could result in a BCS bid for OSU.

There's a good chance that Georgia gets it's overrated arse handed to it by Georgia Tech this Saturday. I haven't looked into it, but that could change the Capital One match-up.

I'd love to see us hammer the dawgs. It would be just like UGA-ly to fcuk that up for me.

I think that Ga. Tech beats Georgia too, but I don't think that will affect the Capital One Bowl. Georgia is guaranteed 3rd place in the SEC, since the Ga Tech game is OOC and they will only have two conference losses.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Capital One bowl gets to choose whichever bowl eligible team they want from the SEC that didn't go to a BCS bowl. Don't think it's tied directly to conference standings.

They get the first selection of SEC and Big Ten teams, following the BCS. So, no, they are not tied to conference standing. However, no other team is even close to them now, and I can't see the Capital One taking any of the other four loss SEC teams over a 3 loss UGA.

even if it isn't, the next choices are ole miss and lsu, both of whom no one cares about this year because they're mediocre at best. i'd love the change to beat the hell out of a crappy lsu team, but it wouldn't be nearly as important as shutting down moreno and stafford would be.

but you guys are right, georgia tech could easily give georgia trouble. i just don't think it matters if georgia wins or loses, they'd still be the marquee matchup

Oregon State would certainly deserve the at large bid if they wont it though thats for sure. They have lost their starting QB, and the leading pac 10 rusher and still keep winning.

In saying that I want the BCS game bad. I think we'd get matched up with Texas and to be honest I think we'd be a good match up with them. Not to mention we know their staff and their team very well. Then I start thinking of us in a Capital one game with Georgia. I think we can beat Georgia, but I think Moreno/Stafford would cause more trouble than Colt McCoy. Hopefully the coaches put together a good plan and the players execute it but one things for certain whoever we play is going to be a tough match up.

I think Utah vs. SEC #2 will be a very exciting game. So will a Cincy vs. ACC Champ game. A game doesn't have to have Ohio State or two top 5 teams to be an exciting game to watch. Maybe I just like college football, though. I'm a fan of Ohio State first...but those would be some great games to watch as a college football fan. I just hope Utah gets a crack at the #3 team...because I think Utah deserves it. They have played a tougher schedule than people think, and haven't lost one game. Not easy to beat three top 20 teams, and win the rest as well. Their SOS is similar to USC's or Penn State's in my opinion.

You must just like watching college football because Cincy, ACC, Big East and Utah are like watching two flies Fu@#... Terrible BCS potential this year even if ohio state somehow makes it. I want the best possible teams playing eachother. Not #4 vs. #25!

While i'll root for UC, they- along with the ACC rep, do not deserve to be there. Utah, however is very deserving IMO.

I agree with you about all of those teams except for Utah. I think they are an excellent football team.
