tOSU's BCS Bowl possibilities

bukIpower;1328825; said:
CG- Florida vs. Texas Tech
Rose- Penn State vs USC
Sugar-Cincy vs Bama
Orange- Miami vs OSU
Fiesta- Texas vs Boise

Could this happen? this is what I sorta came up with here.

I like this scenario, since the OB will be played merely 40 minutes from my place!!

We will get BCS victory #5

Pryor will go absolutely insane you watch. Like 250 passing, 100 rushing. 4 total Td's (2 and 2)

Beanie will go for 125-140 and will punch one in also.

Depending on the team though I won't predict what our defense will do.

No. It would send us to the Rose Bowl.
Well...IFFFFFFFFFF we beat Michigan. Don't ever assume!!!

It's interesting...when Penn State/Michigan State kick off...they will know the results of the Ohio State/Michigan game. If we win Saturday, Michgian State will know that they have NO SHOT at the Rose Bowl. BUT, they'd have an outside shot at a BCS game still. Assuming Michigan State beats Penn State, and the Rose Bowl is USC vs Ohio State...I think the other at large could go to Michigan State...since a conference can't have 3 teams...and I don't see the Pac-10, Big East, ACC, or mid-majors getting two teams in.

So am I right that a Oregon State loss, Ohio State win, and Michigan State win probably sends Michigan State to a BCS bowl?

This is important, and needs to be relayed to MSU if it is true, cuz i'm worried they will be let down a little bit if we beat Michigan, and their hopes for a Rose Bowl are gone.

That's what I was hoping/thinking. Thanks for clearing that up.

But 1st BEAT MICHIGAN. I still think we could end up with an at large bid assuming Penn State wins. I don't think I'll ever be rooting for Michigan St as much as I will be this saturday.

It would be totally up to the selection of the Fiesta Bowl and the Sugar Bowl. I think the PSU fan base and the possibility of JoePa's final bowl game would get a 10-2 PSU selected over a 10-2 MSU that just defeated them in Happy Valley. If the Fiesta selects Utah/Boise (which would be a surprise since PSU hasn't been to the Fiesta Bowl in 12 years), the Sugar would salivate for JoePa, especially against an 11-1 Bama team. They would sell the 30-year rematch of the NC game after the '78 season with Bear and JoePa. That might not be fair to MSU, but I think that's the reality.

I'm re-posting this since it's back a few pages now.

If tOSU and MSU win on Saturday, tOSU goes to the Rose, almost certainly to face either Oregon State or USC.

If Penn State and tOSU win, Penn State goes to the Rose. If Oregon State wins their last 2 games (at Arizona and home against Oregon), they go to the Rose. If USC wins out against ND and UCLA, they would get the last at-large spot, assuming that either Boise, Utah or Ball State qualify for an automatic spot. The Big 12 and the SEC are certainly getting two BCS bids this year.

So, to get a BCS bid, tOSU basically needs to win and have either Penn State, Oregon State, or USC lose.

The Orange Bowl gets last choice this year, so it's very unlikely that tOSU will be going there. That bowl will be stuck with the ACC winner against either the Big East winner or Utah/Boise/Ball State.

tOSU's most likely matchups at this point are the Fiesta Bowl against Texas, or if the Fiesta Bowl selects a nearby undefeated Utah team; the Sugar Bowl against the Florida/Alabama loser. If the Rose Bowl is Penn State-Oregon State, an 11-1 USC would get an at-large bid, and tOSU would go to the Capital One Bowl and probably play Georgia.

Looks like we have some vicious opponents waiting on us no matter which bowl game we go to.

There's another BCS Bowl scenario which was just recently clarified by a BCS spokesperson.

If Mizzou wins the Big 12 CCG, but two other Big 12 teams (among Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech) manage to finish 1-2 in the final BCS standings, the Big 12 would get 3 teams in the BCS.

Seriously, the taking of the top 2 teams into the title game, and giving the conference champion an automatic bid, trumps the rule that limits a conference to only having 2 teams in the BCS.

That would probably limit both the Big Ten and the Pac 10 to 1 team in the BCS, as there are only 2 bids left after the title game and the 6 champs, which would probably go to Utah/Boise and the SEC runner-up.

How could The Big 12 get the top two teams if the Big 12 South team loses to Mizzou? Here's a scenario:

Oklahoma beats both TTech and Okie State, and either Texas or Oklahoma wins the 3-way tiebreaker by being ahead in the BCS standings, but loses to Mizzou in the CCG.

Florida loses to Florida State and then beats Alabama, OR Alabama loses to Auburn and then beats Florida. So there are no undefeated teams.

Texas/Oklahoma and Texas Tech finish ahead of the SEC champion, USC, Utah, and Penn State in the BCS standings. It's possible because the computers will like the Big 12 teams. The key will be how far Texas Tech drops in the human polls after the loss to Oklahoma.

so does a mid-major have to be in the top 8 or top 12 of the BCS standings to get an auto bid?

i guess it's conceivable that Utah could lose to BYU and Boise doesn't crack the top 8 if someone like okie state beats ou or missou wins the big 12 title game.
