Game Thread tOSU vs. Virginia Tech, Sept 6th @ 8pm ET, ESPN & ESPN3 Skycam

This game.. so many things went wrong, many were easy to bounce back from but...taken together, very very hard.
7? sacks and 3? INTS? Toss in the dropped passes, missed FG, stupid penalties (OB kick), new QB, new swiss OL, and mostly bad playcalling IMO, it was a laundry list of what you need to have a bad football game.

Excluding the game ending @#$@# pick 6, it was amazing that OSU was only down by 7.

Well recruiting. Minor fact of having every big recruit we're in in watch us pull out pants down, curl in an odd position, and give ourselves a Cleveland steamer.

That's fair, but as someone else noted I'd say it cuts both ways. We appear to have some openings for people to step in and potentially play.

I'll have to go back and look at the recruit visit list that MD posted, the only name that came immediately to mind with this one was Josh Sweat. Certainly that's a big deal. But I wonder how much single losses cost you on the recruiting side of things.

Still, very fair point.

How anyone watched the game I just watched and says it was on the defense is beyond me. They were the best if all 3 phases. Not even saying they were good, moreso the best by default. Special teams produced nothing but 2 missed fg's, a shanked punt that led to a short field td and a kick out of bounds that led to a short field td. And the offense? Lolllllllll.

They're just too accustomed to Tressel Ball.

Honestly not mad about the loss. New offense and VT secondary was legit. That Fuller is a beast. Hope herman puts more trust in the offense. Strap it up and take it out on Kent read, Kent write, Kent State

Strangely I feel more confident about some players (maybe lost all confidence in one or two who will rename nameless)
But kind of concerned about the coaching.

I thought it'd be the opposite. JT, Thomas, Lee, and Apple are really growing on me though.

I'm interested in how they react. Learn, grow, let that loss stew and get better every goddamned day.

GO BUCKS

Heard the same things in the off season.
Okay, incoming Pollyannishness. I offer it without apology, but this is seriously where my head is right now.

This loss doesn't matter. At. All. Not even a little.

I disagree. You prepare for this game. You train for this game, condition, gameplan (although that's debatable) and as a player this is the atmosphere you come to tOSU for. So, it may not matter to fans who look at this as a 'rebuilding' year. It may not matter to the fans that this game doesn't determine who ends up winning the conference, but it matters to these kids. That's why I sympathize. If I'm putting time, sweat and passion into something, then you better believe it's going to matter.

Yes, this game mattered. We want a measuring stick to see where this team and where this coaching staff is. I'm sure the players and coaches wanted that. It's not everyday you get to play against Virginia Tech and a fine coach like Beamer.

Why even play OOC games or schedule then if they don't matter? Because if we don't look good enough to make it too the playoffs that somehow the value of a marquee opponent is diminished? I can't buy that. Not for a moment.
