Game Thread tOSU vs. Virginia Tech, Sept 6th @ 8pm ET, ESPN & ESPN3 Skycam

It was a rough call, but the opportunities were there.
Can't really complain when there were 3 turnovers and can't score points. Drop a TD, miss 2 FGs, lose on 3rd downs offensively and defensively, etc.
exactly we did EVERYTHING you shouldn't do to win a game. The fact that we were driving for the win with 1 minute to go was dumbfounding to me, because told my dad this feels like a blowout and yet here we are (then we threw a pick 6)

I'm just perplexed at the lack of variety we displayed on offense. Every play seemed like our WR were running go routes. I didnt see a post route, a dig route or even a screen pass all game. If the line is playing poorly, there are ways to combat that, other than by having the QB hold on to the ball and wait for his WR to run straight down the field.

can't say I agree with you...some of those conversions were just great plays...and VT's offense didn't cross midfield in the second half until their TD drive midway to the 4th...no, this one was clearly on the offense.
Right, that's my take away from the defense as well. I think the VA Tech O just flat out beat the D and made a lot of plays. It's not like last year when you have defensive breakdowns and missed tackles all over the place.

Someone needs to tell Corey Smith to catch a ball.

You haven't exactly been a peach tonight, my friend.

Listen, I have let my frustrations out like everyone else here, but I've kept bashing out of all my comments. I've been respectful to everyone here aside from that guy. The poster above is an obvious troll and has been since the Navy game. Guys like him used to be banned on the spot.

Okay, incoming Pollyannishness. I offer it without apology, but this is seriously where my head is right now.

This loss doesn't matter. At. All. Not even a little.

This is not a team that belongs in the four team playoff. We know that now. They may grow into a really solid team, maybe more, but anyone who expected (not hoped for, expected) an undefeated season after losing Braxton for the season was confused. You don't lose an OL, Carlos Hyde, AND Braxton Miller and not suffer for it.

So what happened tonight?

We lost an early season out of conference game. Which means what? We'd do well to contend for the conference title. This weekend proves that the race for that is wide open. So this loss costs us very little in terms of that quest.

What does it do for us? That's the sort of pressure we could certainly see from Michigan State. We've seen it, we failed the test spectacularly, and now we can get to the business of working on it.

JT? That poor kid. Played like a freshman, but was abused like Joe Germaine against Florida State (okay, maybe not THAT bad). He kept hope alive until the end of the game, at least until he threw it away. But here was a kid who got very little help from the playcalling, his OL, and his receivers. This was failure by committee.

It's going to be a long season. A lot of us were saying and thinking that we're probably a 2-loss team (give or take) after news of Miller broke. Maybe it's 2, maybe it's 4 -- but we've got one under our belt. Let's hope this loss means we're less likely to take another one later when it counts, against a conference opponent.

After losses in the past I've felt crestfallen, and it was clear I'd carry a funk forward. Maybe it's because I have a different perspective now because of two other clear and present factors dominating my personal life right now -- but I don't feel that funk coming on here. Wish we had won, have WAY too many VaTech fan friends for that not to be true -- but I don't feel injured by this one. As above, I don't think it has cost us a thing.

Maybe that is Pollyannish, maybe it's sour grapes. I don't know. We came back and had hope, and VaTech put on an impressive display defensively. Try to feel okay about this one. That's not loser mentality, it just is what it is.

If Urban Meyer has any balls at all, he will fire his entire defensive coaching staff TONIGHT....
Yeah, he should fire them because the defense was the only reason this game wasn't 41-7. They held VT to less than half of what they were giving up to crap offenses last year. A lot of those 3rd downs they gave up, were excellent plays by VT receivers, and they were blitzing more, just like everyone wanted. On top of it, they got the offense 3 forced turnovers (should have been 4). Sorry, there's no way you can hang this on the defense, especially when the offensive yardage was pretty much identical between VT and the Buckeyes, and it was clear that our offense was offensive.
