Game Thread tOSU vs. Virginia Tech, Sept 6th @ 8pm ET, ESPN & ESPN3 Skycam

I travelled to the game from Denver. Sat in c14. Sometimes I wonder if the coaches are watching the same game that I am. Our secondary is a dumpster fire and it looks to me like it is the scheme as much or more than the players. It is the same old soft zone bs that we have seen for the past two seasons. We are afraid to press the wide outs. They start out wide open and stay that way.

I guess I'll have to watch a replay.( One of those 60 minute ones on BTN tho) It looked to me that the receivers he completed passes to were covered they just seemed to make the catch. I don't really remember seeing a guy catch a ball and and wondering who was supposed to be covering him more than once or twice tbh.

I don't know what I expected of this team coming into the season, especially once Brax got hurt. One thing I do expect is a team that is prepared both physically and mentally and ready to play. I also expect coaches to make adjustments and not be so predictable. For the OC to admit he was not prepared for what he saw, for the DCs not to tighten up things on crucial 3rd and longs time and again is disconcerting at best. To lose 3 out of our last 4 games, struggle with woeful Illinois and Michigan teams last year and look as unprepared as we did against Navy and VT is just mind boggling to me.

Time for these coaches, top to bottom, to earn their paychecks....

Also dug up some #hot #takes that I wanted to respond directly to:

Forgive my blasphemy, but the Urban years are taking on a real similarity to the Cooper years: tons of stud recruits, winning the games we're supposed to win but [Mark May]ting the bed whenever somebody tough comes along.

Urban Meyer is 2-0 against M*ch*g*n. Until something changes on that front there is no comparison. Did I miss a memo where we started judging Cooper's tenure by some other standard?

1. Been a long time since we had a FG kicker like this. I predict a lot of going for it on fourth and anything.

A long time indeed. Not since Mike Nugent. What ever happened to that guy?

Well get ready because after tonight ever team is practicing a double eagle front with 0 behind it. Better learn how to beat it...

They can bring it on. There isn't a team on the schedule that has a secondary like Virginia Tech's. That unit is regularly putting guys in the NFL. They recruit and coach them well. Many teams don't have the personnel (either on the field or on the sideline) to even dream of trying what they do.

Case in point: That awsome catch that Dontre Wilson made? Half the reason it was awesome is because he was absolutely blanketed. Teams that want to emulate their scheme are going to have to match their skill.

This is on Meyer as well as he brought this crew in and they are now 1-3 over the last 4.

As I sit here and watch the game again I see ok defense, bad ST play and straight up middle school offense.

"Dustin Fox should be a safety."

"Terrelle Pryor should be a wide receiver."

Now this.

So the guy is two for two. My comment, "1. Been a long time since we had a FG kicker like this. I predict a lot of going for it on fourth and anything," was written in sarcasm font, but that failed to show up when I posted. Let's face it, he hits those two field goals and a lot of things change in the game. He didn't - and he really pushed the one about 20 yards wide. Remember when Michigan had to go for 4th and whatever on anything outside the 15? Well, guess what, that's the Buckeyes this year.

It's quite another thing to act so entitled that you're ashamed to be associated with the team when they lose. d.

I don't think anyone is ashamed of being associated with the team. I also don't believe anyone here would have a single issue with a well fought, smart game that just didn't go our way.
That would be understandable with having such a young team.

The embarrassment I think a couple people speak of however, is when your team and specifically coaching staff are de-pants on national TV against a program that struggled mightily vs an FBS team the week prior.

He had a rough night....it happens. When Nuernberger was 2/2 and hit one from 46 in the Navy game, those negative comments didn't exist. He played his first ever game surrounded by 107,000. I'm not ready to write him off........

I get what you're saying, but what you're describing is disappointment not embarrassment and it doesn't match the tone or the context of the posts I read.

I talked to plenty of drunk Buckeye fans in various establishments after the game last night that didn't say anything as rash as what I read here.

I'm plenty disappointed at the Buckeyes' showing last night.

I'm in no way embarrassed. The young men played hard to the final whistle, but either the talent level was lacking or the players just need more time to play well together. I choose to believe the latter WRT to our offensive line; not quite so sanguine about our wide receivers.

Nonetheless, let me repeat -- I'm not embarrassed to call myself a Buckeye fan at all today. And if I were driving the streets of Tallahassee or Tuscaloosa I'd feel the same damn way.

I'm a VT alum who traveled to the game with my two daughters. I must admit, like many others unfamiliar with OSU and Columbus I had heard urban legends about how rough the atmosphere and especially OSU fans could be to fans of opposing teams. I was prepared to have to endure a brutal day of tailgating, harsh language and a rough time at the game, especially given we were surrounded by a sea of scarlet, well away from the VT section..

All I have to say is, every fan was super nice, friendly, eager to chat, and not anything at all like I had been led to believe my experience would be like. Everyone was very welcoming, not a mean or rough person anywhere, and having been to stadiums all around this country, the whole game day experience will go down as one of the best I've ever encountered. My kids absolutely loved the whole experience and I must say, you're stadium rocks and your band is unlike anything I have ever seen. By far the best and most entertaining band I have ever seen in my life. The game was certainly a nail biter at the end and even with things not going as you had hoped, I never even heard a single foul word. With younger daughters I was worried about language and had been warned about the likelihood of frequent non-stop f-bombs. Again, all these rumors proved completely unfounded. Literally, neither I nor my daughters heard a single foul word the entire game. Not one. That is amazing, and something I've rarely encountered ever at any other stadium. It helped make an already fun day even more enjoyable because I could share it with my kids without worry.

We encountered no harsh or insulting epithets, only genuine friendliness and hospitality. People smiled and welcomed us to the campus. Numerous OSU fans throughout the day would approach me and my kids, thank us for coming, seemed genuinely concerned that we were enjoying our time, and even asked if the OSU fans we encountered were friendly. They wished us luck before the game and despite a VT win, congratulated us with sincerity after the game. Wow. And I'm not just talking about the elderly or statesmanlike alumni. Everyone, from young students to parking lot attendants, and ushers to every local business employee. If those rumors or urban legends ever had any basis in fact, then what my family and I witnessed on Saturday was the exact opposite.

So, from a very impressed VT fan I just want to say thanks to OSU for a great time. Yes, the win was nice (ok, maybe for us, but you will get a chance to square things up when we host the next game), but what made the day especially memorable and a remarkable experience was that everyone was so nice and that the whole day was a joy.. I hope we can schedule you guys again just so I have an excuse to come up for a game again, regardless of how it turns out for my team. Great job OSU. Game was good but the atmosphere and fans were even better.

If you want the full experience like that cars.com commercial, I can help you out. GO FUCK YOURSELF!

And in case anyone doesn't realize (I've been misunderstood here and in the real world before), I'm joking. Glad you enjoyed the game.
