Game Thread tOSU @ Virginia Tech, Sep 7 2015 @ 8pm ET, ESPN

Not expecting this to be too popular over on this site, but what the hell!

I will say that if Ohio State can't get it done, then they should be relegated to the same mentality as Oregon. Yes on paper they should dominate everyone, but can't get it done against a good defense.
That being said, I don't see a way that Va Tech can dominate the game like they did last year. Everyone has experience now and it's not a new scheme on defense. (probably not on offense either)

Ohio state got it done against Penn State, MSU, Wisky, and Bama, all considered to have good defenses.

This is an astounding take.

I've never seen a fan call his own team a paper tiger when the last game they played was a win in a championship game. Unreal.

VT did an outstanding job bringing pressure and not getting burned last year. I think Beamer tries to repeat that. If the Buckeyes can handle it, it will be a long night for VT. If not, it will be close.

Stats aren't the end all, and VT had some serious injuries. But according to the final 2014 stats, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State and Alabama had better yards per game and yards per play averages. VT will present a challenge, but this is about the hottest of #hottakes that I would normally expect from someone like Skip or Stephen A.

Beyond not connecting on the deep ball, they also took too many shots as well. I think the biggest lesson learned from that disaster of an offensive performance, were the "easy yards" we left on the field.

It wasn't a coincidence that the following week against Kent State, who tried to duplicate the bear defense, we opened the game with a swing pass to Eze and scored our first TD of the day on a swing pass to Rod Smith. It was something the coaching staff recognized after being somewhat exposed in that game.

The biggest problem with the Va Tech and bear defense to me, was the inability of our offense to take what the defense was giving us. I think Meyer and Herman were so focused on explosive plays, and they talked about wanting more explosive plays that entire off-season, that it kind of backfired on them. All we tried to do was exploit one on one match-ups when Va Tech brought the house, that we really did a disservice to Eze out of the backfield. I'm taking Eze 1 on 1 against a linebacker in open space all day long. He's going to win that match-up and gain good chunks of yardage.

I also think the Va Tech game was one of the best things to happen to the coaching staff last year, because it forced them to incorporate new wrinkles to the offense. They really started exploiting teams after the Va Tech game, and a lot of it was taking advantage of what the defenses were giving us rather than forcing things in the name of explosive plays.
