Game Thread tOSU @ Virginia Tech, Sep 7 2015 @ 8pm ET, ESPN

I will say that if Ohio State can't get it done, then they should be relegated to the same mentality as Oregon. Yes on paper they should dominate everyone, but can't get it done against a good defense.
That being said, I don't see a way that Va Tech can dominate the game like they did last year. Everyone has experience now and it's not a new scheme on defense. (probably not on offense either)
I understand your thought process, but 1 game can't change what this team has accomplished. Decisively defeating Alabama and Oregon (despite losing the turnover battles in both) earned them a lot of respect and benefit-of-the-doubt. Can't dismiss that on just 1 loss to a traditionally strong program in their place.

Stopping the madness of throwing every deep ball to Corey, Dontre and Evan will be a big improvement by itself. Not one of them is playing Monday.

I have no official stats to back this up but we probably targeted Corey more in the one game against Va Tech than we did the rest of the year combined. I never understood that. Of course, he flat out dropped about a 80 yards worth of catches and a touchdown.

Guys, let me enjoy the 3 days I have left of enjoying the game from last year. I'm very aware of the reality coming Monday night... But it will be a lot of fun either way.

This will be Blacksburg on Monday night (I was in this crowd for Miami, it was insane)

This.

Urban admitted that the loss last year was on the coaching staff. The biggest problem was that in his second game and 3 or 4 week of practice, JT, had only a small percentage of the total offense at his disposal. Since they did not expect the bear, the only "bear beaters" in the game plan were these deep routes. This time whoever the QB is will have the full component of bear beaters available.

Because of that I expect Foster to try something new, but I don't think Urban will be caught by surprise this year whatever it is.

I tracked the targets and he was in double digits that night, which is staggering.

90% of the conversation about this game has been VTs defense and our offense. Our defense is what is going to win this game and I'm counting on at least one score coming from that side of the ball. Silver. Bullets.

44-14 is what keeps popping in my mind about the game but probably only 17-7 at halftime.
I'm expecting a Xbrax 1 punt ret. for a TD. But I agree, the defense made the plays when they needed to at the end of last year. I don't expect any drop off in that aspect.

See I don't get this mind thought either? We've won two national titles in the last 13 years and have been to another 2 but lost. As much as I'd like to believe we can roll everyone that simply just isn't going to be the case every time. There will be teams that will stop our offense even though we think they're the equivalent of the 85 bears because sometimes it's just not your night. We've destroyed a lot of great defenses and frankly the only team that has stopped Urban's offense in the first 4 years of him being here is the Hokies last year. I will take one clunker game in 48 games over 4 years every. single. time.

All of us are severely under estimating the Hokies and just how good they are on defense. Yes we were young, yes we were blindsided, and yes we never adjusted all game (minus throwing deep every other play) but make no mistake it was also because the Hokies just really are a good defense. So don't be surprised again if we start the game with a 3 and out and have to punt. It happens because thats what good defenses can sometime do to you. This is just my warning to the crowd that is expecting a 45-10 victory that while I hope you're right the odds IMO of that happening is very very slim. Expect a low scoring and tight game for the whole game because that's what Tech does in Blacksburg. We will win? I expect we will. Will it be a slaughter? I wouldn't bet on it.

I'll take a win. 1-0 or 100-99. Don't care because we ARE NOT at full capacity for this game. If we can get through this game and get Bosa and our 3 of our top 4 WR's back we will burn the rest of the competition to the ground.
That's what would make getting a shutout all the more impressive. The Bucks have the talent, full strength or not.

I agree we do have the talent to do it but really at this point with being a short handed as we are I'd just be excited with a win. I just really don't care and will show no greed in this game. Get through this first game with a win and then get reinforcements for the remainder of the year to then go for the shutouts.

OHIO STATE WILL WEAR HELMET DECAL AGAINST VIRGINIA TECH THAT HONORS WDBJ-7 VICTIMS

Ohio State expressed a desire to show its solidarity with Virginia Tech in remembering the vibrant lives of Alison Parker and Adam Ward,” Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock said in a release. “Coach Beamer and I both agreed it was a wonderful gesture on the part of Gene Smith, Urban Meyer, and the Buckeyes. We hope fans of both teams join us in hopefully providing some solace to the friends, families and co-workers who continue to miss Alison and Adam."

Paris Campbell expected to be the replacement, at least for the VT game, for the spot opposite of Thomas. I'm thinking it will be more Jalin/Corey Smith when they are back from suspension.

http://www.elevenwarriors.com/forum...2015/09/58801/who-starts-opposite-mike-thomas

Had a conversation yesterday with someone close to the Buckeyes and he told me that as of now it will be Parris Campbell lining up as the starter opposite Mike Thomas on Monday night.

"He's going to be really good," the source said. "He's not there yet, but he's going to be phenomenal."

Expect Campbell, Johnnie Dixon, Terry McLaurin and others to see the field early and often.
