Game Thread tOSU @ Virginia Tech, Sep 7 2015 @ 8pm ET, ESPN

If I was a VT fan, I would want to know what Beamer and company were fined for losing to goddamned East Carolina
Probably not as much as they got fined for losing to wake forest.

Has anyone ever won a game by not scoring any field goals...or touchdowns...?

I know you're joking, but I seem to remember a story from a million years ago about Ohio State winning a game 2-0. Maybe that doesn't count, though, because no actual game was played. It was something like how the other team (I can't remember who) refused to play the set amount of time the game was supposed to be. The rules stated that each half was supposed to be something weird like 35 minutes. If the two teams could agree on a different length per half, they could change it. But if the two teams couldn't agree, the team that chose to play the 35 minute halves gets a 2-0 win. So that's what happened. The other team refused to play, and Ohio State won 2-0.

Looking for a web site with this information, I found this instead:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_historically_significant_college_football_games

A couple of the games ended with scores that cannot be made with touchdowns or field goals, using today's rules. I know older rules were different values for touchdowns and field goals, etc. So I can't say that they were only safeties scored. The games were Chicago over Michigan in 1905, 2-0, and Vanderbilt over Carlisle in 1906, 4-0.

Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit to call Ohio State-Virginia Tech

Though in previous year's ESPN's Thursday night crew had called the now annual Monday night college football opener, ESPN's rolling in the big guns with the former Buckeye quarterback Kirk Herbstreit and his play-by-play partner, former College GameDay host Chris Fowler heading to Blacksburg. Given the hype, it's not hard to understand why.

Foster seems pretty confident that the VT D will stop our Offense. Apparently he is under the assumption that this is the same Offense they faced last year.
Yeah I get that sense too... He seems to think all other D Coordinators are retarded when I read things he says. He's constantly saying "well we stacked the box on OSU and they couldn't match up and Alabama/Oregon/Wisconsin refused to stack the box"

The issue that Alabama/Oregon/Wisconsin faced that Bud isn't taking into account is we knew how to beat the Bear front the rest of the year and unlike the Hokies the teams I just mentioned did not have literally half a year to prepare a defense that we'd never seen before. I think Bud is a really good coordinator (maybe even the best) but until now I've never picked up on his conceited and cocky attitude. The reason teams didn't copy what you did Bud wasn't because they couldn't do it, it was because quite simply we would've went rough shod over them even more had they tried.

Yeah, I was flashing back to that all-field-goals or whatever post that you guys sometimes reference--not sure I ever investigated the original to see how that all started. But, it did occur to me when I made the post that it isn't impossible for someone to have managed a safety and you would get a 2-zip result. Just as soon it isn't the final on Sept. 7th, though.

You might check whether Sling carries BTN now. I looked at their website a few weeks ago, but can't remember if I ever found that listed.

On a related note, the Time-Warner coverage I have doesn't include the Fox Sports channel that has meatchicken's game. Open to suggestions for streaming it--is FirstRow still a viable option? (Since I'm hoping to witness live the first smack down of Hardball and deflation of tsun's expectations.)

You will quickly find out why sports is the only thing keeping cable companies alive. make sure you buy a decent antenna. Can buy the leaf for about $20 now.
First row is an option. Quality is just poor. Can't see the ball, which gets confusing on the option plays. It's better than nothing. Have a good add block. For watch espn I just used my in laws cable account to sign in. That was never a problem. Could never get Btn. If all else fails and you can't get a game you want just head to a bar.

Maybe they'll have the Sky Cam on ESPN360, and I don't have to listen to Herbie.

I knew the reference. I just figured I'd bring some seriousness to a joke that required none.
