Game Thread tOSU @ Virginia Tech, Sep 7 2015 @ 8pm ET, ESPN

I'm so nervous. Really do not want to see a let down against Hawaii.
We could play our second and third string the entire game and still beat Hawaii by 40+ points.

This season will obviously play out the way it plays out. But as a completely unbiased onlooker, this team could be of '95 Nebraska proportions of awesome in my imo. 4 deep at every frigging position if the injury bug stays away. On paper, the best Buckeye team of my lifetime? Goddamnit I hate jinxing, but just looking at the ridiculous embarrassment of riches...
The '95 Nebraska defense gave up 21+ points in six of their twelve games. I'd like to think we'll do better than that. However, I'll admit it'll be tough to match their 53 ppg on offense...

We're gonna run a modern version/variation of that offense and be just as effective as they were....and I'm not sure we'll have to pass the ball against half our schedule...but we will...and we'll be absolutely awesome passing the ball too. Again, I feel like I'm jinxing shit. But on paper...omfg it is gonna get ugly against some of these teams we play this year...

And then there's the Silver Bullets. fucking afterthought? WTF? LOL

Yeah that was sarcasm. I know I'm a homer and all but I still think this team is going to just smack VT. I think our guys will be imposing their will no later than the second quarter. Not really sure it will matter what Beamer/Foster come up with. Don't get me wrong, I'm good with a win, I just think the revenge factor is going to make this a statement game.

The 53/per is the half of that I'm actually most confident in.

This team is going to drop 60 at least 3 times.

Provided we don't have another game like we did at Penn State. Games like that and the one at Minnesota (weather, Marshall losing a fumble while going into the end zone) will keep us from that. From the Kent State game on those were the only games in our final 13 that we failed to score at least 42 points.

This should give some of us an idea of the hokies at least. I am surprised at how open their practices are and how non existent ours tend to be in regards to updates. What I took away from the article is the offense is really not where it should be and the hokies moved a corner to safety, lost their starting rover, and don't know who their mike is on defense. After watching the previous years matchup in the shoe' moments ago and reading this update I'm starting to feel pretty good about this game for a variety of reasons.

1. We have had this circled since 00 in the 4th quarter last year against Tech.

2. I've never seen so many third down conversions converted like Tech had last year. With a better defense I do not see them having as much free space this time around.

3. We don't play Navy first game

4. Veterans everywhere on offense to handle the Tech front (which will be the most talented we face all year)

5. I like Kendall Fullers game but he's faced up against Michael Thomas and at 6'3" it will be a physical mismatch.

6. They lost the middle of their back 7. You don't lose two safeties and your MLB and improve you just don't.

7. Their defense has faced their offense for the last 6 months or so.

This is pretty much all I needed.
I think this personally had maybe one of the biggest effects on our last game. I watched the before halftime comments from Urban against Tech and the very first thing he said was "You can tell they've been working on this one for a while" and IMO that was a big fuck you to Gene for scheduling such a different/unique football team in Navy for the first game. Before the tech game the week leading up to the game itself Urban also said something to the effect of "I'm worried about this game because he spent so much time getting ready for Navy".

He acknowledged it again the next week after Tech and IMO he feels (along with our players) that if we had prepared for Tech like they got to do for us then it would've been different. Frankly, It probably would have been enough but we have to remember that Tech played a brand new defensive scheme and Also unveiled a brand new offense as well. There just was no tape on what to game plan for but this time around there's all the freaking tape in the world and this time around OSU has been preparing for this game since 01/13 just like the Hokies have. There will be no advantage in who got to prepare harder and because of that OSU's shear talent can now shine.

We just need to do 3 things now to win this game.

1. Win the turnover battle

2. Win the Field Position/Special Teams battle

3. Win up front

I don't doubt the revenge factor, especially with Urban Meyer, but Tech will be extremely amped up for this game as well considering that for this program a win over the defending champs could make the season. Plus considering it's at home, I think that each team has a lot of intangibles going their way.

2. I've never seen so many third down conversions converted like Tech had last year. With a better defense I do not see them having as much free space this time around.
Very valid point. I couldn't believe half of the crap that Brewer pulled out of his a** last year and don't expect that to happen again (especially considering how sloppy he looked the rest of the season). However, that was also only Brewer's 2nd start after transferring and the offense was loaded with true freshmen. I'm hoping that with this past year of development that they won't have to rely on magic/luck/divine intervention as much.

3. We don't play Navy first game
Eh, I see your point. It obviously a huge benefit not having to spend time focusing on a completely different strategy, but come on. This is THE Ohio State University which has some of the most elite talent in the country, not to mention possibly the best coach in college football (probably behind only Saban). The deck is, and always has been, stacked in tOSU's favor.

4. Veterans everywhere on offense to handle the Tech front (which will be the most talented we face all year)
I agree. Won't be open season on Barrett like last year and I look forward to seeing this battle.

5. I like Kendall Fullers game but he's faced up against Michael Thomas and at 6'3" it will be a physical mismatch.
LOL. Fuller will be a Pro Bowl cornerback in the near future. Thank God all of his brothers played for Tech because otherwise we probably wouldn't have had a chance at signing him.

6. They lost the middle of their back 7. You don't lose two safeties and your MLB and improve you just don't.
It will be a setback for sure, but Foster has a way of plugging guys into his system and maximizing the talent he's given. Don't get me wrong, there will be struggles, but also plenty to compensate with.

7. Their defense has faced their offense for the last 6 months or so.
No argument here. VT's offense has a way of making any defense look like the '85 Bears at times. I just hope that Foster can keep them focused and not play down to their opponents (ie- Tech's offense in practice).

-------------------------------------------------

Overall, I still expect Ohio State to win this game but I'm hoping that VT can surprise me. I think that our defense will be rock solid for awhile, but if our offense can't move the ball and put up points then they're going to get worn down. Ohio State has way too much talent and it will take another perfect game to have a chance. Realistically, this game could quickly turn into a blowout but if we put up another effort like last year I think that it could be a competitive game for awhile. All I know is that football season is back, and I'm PUMPED for September 7th. See you guys in Blacksburg!
