Playing for your parents school means a lot. Heck, look at the last OSU commit, Wilhelm’s son. And this isn’t the type of kid that seems to want the attention at big school in a big city. Hence why his 1st commit was to BFE, PA and he feels more comfortable in WV! His visit to WVU before OSU’s already had them in a big lead, OSU was fighting just to get even. Every kid doesn’t want to be a Buckeye. And that’s ok

Ohio State leads the country with three five-star commits– all of which are the top-ranked player at their respective position – in the 2026 class, according to Rivals' updated rankings.

Wilder jumped from No. 3 defensive lineman (No. 61 overall), Timmons from No. 11 cornerback (No. 87 overall) and Henry from No. 2 wide receiver (No. 14 overall). The latter actually fell one spot in the overall rankings but jumped to the top spot at his position.Along with those three five-star commits, Ohio State also has four other commits ranked among Rivals’ top 100 players: Sam Greer (No. 5 offensive tackle, No. 33 overall), Blaine Bradford (No. 4 safety, No. 67 overall), Damari Simeon (No. 7 defensive lineman, No. 75 overall) and Cincere Johnson (No. 6 linebacker, No. 84 overall).

This is not the last recruit that will flip his allegiance before Signing Day, either. Ryan Day is expecting a few other recruits to change their minds and end up in Columbus before Early Signing Day next month. In fact, a few of them are likely to make that decision sometime this week.
This is the momentum that everyone thought Ohio State would have early in the recruiting cycle after winning a national championship. Now that they are the favorites to win back-to-back titles, everyone is looking at them with a fresh perspective. Recruits want to go to winning programs.
Perhaps some added spending in the NIL space is happening, as well. Ross Bjork was notoriously stingy early in the cycle, but things may have changed since the House Settlement was approved. Perhaps other schools are running out of NIL money that they can spend, as well.
Whatever the case may be, Ohio State has clearly been the beneficiary late in this cycle.

I think the main reason is that OSU is flipping kids from schools with coach's on hot seats, coaches who have already been fired, or just inferior programs.
