Very encouraged with the OL recruiting so far, off to a great head start with plenty more viable and talented targets. That was my biggest concern and it has been an obvious priority. I love that the staff (and presumably Bowen) are not putting all their eggs in one basket like in year's past at the OL position.Love the current momentum. More please
Ohio State is bringing two blue chip QBs into Columbus in the coming weeks.
Derek Zammit and Jett Thomala.
Says Ohio State is likely to shoot to the top of both recruitments as they start to prioritize them.
I'm not sure who the other guy is you're mentioning, but CHjr definitely has the quiet demeanor, that him "shutting it down" isn't much of a surprise. But I wouldn't see the staff requesting that of all their commits. That would be a VERY slippery slopeInteresting that there are two ‘26 guys who, while being high profile commits, within 24-hours have signaled “shutting down” their recruitments. I wonder if the staff has been more forward with that directive.
Good on them if they have. I’m optimistic that it will work in the team’s favor.
The high three-star QB from Ashland, Ohio said 10 minutes after Michigan offered that Ohio State texted him and is now showing interest. We'll see if this leads anywhere as Bernhard said he wants to make a decision sooner than later but seems to be waiting on the Buckeyes.
Rivals released their updated Top 250 list for 2026 and there's lots of positive movement for OSU guys (both commitments and targets), which is what you expect to see when we're still early-ish in the cycle. Commits with movement noted in parentheses are here:
#13 Blaine Bradford (+1)
#22 Chris Henry Jr (-3)
#119 Sam Greer (+73)
#132 Max Riley (-41)
#164 Favour Akih(+62)
#225 Jakob Weatherspoon (-15)
#229 Simeon Caldwell (+7)
#246 Jaeden Ricketts (+4)
Corbyn Fordham dropped out of the top 250 but remains a 4-star
Tucker Smith and CJ Sanna remain outside of the top 250 but both received a ratings bump from a 5.6 (mid/upper 3-star) to a 5.7 (high 3-star)
- Smith went up from #10 to #5 in AZ
- Sanna went up from #42 to #21 in OH
Do the increased scholarship limits kick in this year? We only have one year of Donaldson and maybe 3 is the number for the position if we hit on the bigger targets...I would think the number is 2 but just throwing it out there. Akih is one that I would take a commitment from, he's not going to scare off a Baker or Cooper and I don't want to see him leave Ohio.OSU is now in an extremely interesting predicament for the RB class now. It'd be what Marlo and Chris would call "one of those good problems"(for The Wire watchers). It seems like Carsyn Baker from GA has OSU in his lead, Locklyn has now made up ground for Derek Cooper, and he's still in the hunt for Savion Hiter. Then there's still Favour Akih who has visited about 4 times in the last 2 months. Akih seems to be getting slow played for the moment, because there's no way Lock turns down a commitment from 2 of the RBs in the first group of 3 for Akih. No offense, but he's not on their level(at least not at this time). Akih and one of that group would be a great class, but if Lock were to land 2 of the 1st group, you're talking the #1 RB class easily
I'm not 100% sure about the scholarship limit, but from reading Day talking numbers at the spring game, I believe it has started. And the term is kind of misleading. The scholarship numbers do increase from 85 to 105. But walk ons are essentially pushed out, and numbers will start to be tight. For example, last year, OSU had 120 total players on roster and 85 were on scholarship. This year, 15 of those players will have to be cut.Do the increased scholarship limits kick in this year?
