2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Florida 2025 running back Donovan Johnson may only be entering his sophomore year of high school, but he’s well-versed on Ohio State’s longstanding tradition of developing elite ball carriers.

“I think of Ezekiel Elliott, Eddie George, all of the greats and all that,” Johnson said.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound running back has had plenty of reason to research the Buckeyes over the past few months. On May 3, OSU running backs coach Tony Alford stopped by Calvary Day High School (Savannah, Georgia), to offer Johnson a scholarship. He was only the second running back the Buckeyes offered in the 2025 cycle.

“It was fantastic,” Johnson said of receiving his Ohio State offer. “Because it’s THE Ohio State University. Coach Alford came down to see me, and it was really awesome. Instantly, we connected.”

DAVON MITCHELL CONSIDERS OHIO STATE A “DREAM SCHOOL”

Texas 2025 tight end Davon Mitchell has had an eventful summer.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end has picked up offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma and LSU within the last month and currently holds 16 Division I offers. Picking up an offer from OSU made him a bit sentimental because he’s always considered the Buckeyes one of his favorite teams despite his Texas roots.

THIS 6-FOOT-1, 295-POUND 14-YEAR-OLD FOOTBALL RECRUIT IS CLEARLY BUILT DIFFERENT

I’ll go ahead and say it if it hasn’t already been said by the grown men who track high school football recruiting — 14-year-old Tyler Parker is just built different.

I know, I know…that cliché is thrown around all the time by the cool kids on social media, but this time it’s pretty clear that we’re dealing with a soon-to-be sophomore who could pass as muscle for the Kardashians.

Parker, who plays defensive line at Santa Margarita High School, checks in at a staggering 6-foot-1 and 295 pounds. Those numbers, combined with a strong social media game where Parker shows that he’s not built like the typical 14-year-old high school football player, has this kid and his swole neck on the radar of programs from Deion’s Jackson State all the way up the ladder to a standing offer at Arizona. There was also a visit with Ole Miss, Texas A&M, LSU, etc., etc.

Let’s face it, there are very few college coaches out there who don’t have NIL corporations working to secure this kid for the 2025 season.

The recruiting analysts can’t get enough of Parker looking like he is completely capable of clearing a path as Kim Kardashian gets out of a high six-figure SUV to grab some ice cream with her daughter.

We’re talking an absolute road grader, full load, immovable object that has college football coaches ready to throw piles of NIL cash at the feet of this kid who has yet to even start sophomore math.

Speaking of school, Parker says in his Twitter bio that he’s carrying a 3.36 GPA while keeping busy with football and wrestling in the winter.

“Best believe I am a DAWG,” Parker warned on Twitter in early June while posing in LSU gear.

SHORT HOPES TO SCHEDULE OHIO STATE VISIT
One of Ohio State’s top offensive line targets in the 2025 class is hoping to schedule another visit to Columbus sometime this fall.

Georgia offensive tackle Mason Short told Eleven Warriors this week he plans to attend one of Ohio State’s games this year, though he’s unsure which game it’ll be.

The 6-foot-7, 280-pound Short was offered by OSU on April 7 after visiting Columbus for a spring practice. He’s racked up no shortage of offers thus far, already picking up offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Kentucky, Penn State and South Carolina. He has 12 Division I offers in total.

For 2025 QBs, is it Ryan Montgomery or bust?

One of Ohio State’s biggest quarterback targets in the 2025 class has locked in his next OSU visit. Four-star quarterback Colin Hurley confirmed he’ll be in Columbus for the rivalry game with Michigan on Nov. 26.
Hurley is one of two quarterbacks Ohio State has offered in the 2025 cycle along with Ohio product Ryan Montgomery. He picked up his OSU offer after camping with the Buckeyes on June 21, the same camp 2024 five-star OSU commit Dylan Raiola participated in.

Not only does he have one of the best names in the entire recruiting industry, but Arizona prospect Bear Tenney is emerging as a priority tight end target for Ohio State in the 2025 recruiting class.

Tenney picked up his OSU offer from Kevin Wilson and Ryan Day on June 28, then made his first gameday visit on Sept. 3 for the Notre Dame game.

“It was the loudest atmosphere I’ve ever been in,” Tenney told Eleven Warriors.
