2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I’ll take a shot at a best case scenario, basically the top players currently on Ohio State’s board from what I can gather. I’ll put my confidence in parentheses for the projections.

QB Air Noland

RB James Peoples
RB Jordan Lyle
APB Sam Williams Dixon

WR Jeremiah Smith
WR Mylan Graham
WR Jeremiah McClellan (high)
WR Elijah Moore (high)

TE Max LeBlanc
TE Damarion Witten (medium)

OL Ian Moore
OL Deontae Armstrong
OL Devontae Armstrong
OL Marc Nave
OL Brandon Baker (low)

DL Marquise Lightfoot (high)
DL Eddrick Houston (medium)
DL Dylan Stewart (low)
DL a true DT

LB Payton Pierce
LB Garrett Stover
LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (low)

CB Bryce West (high)
CB Aaron Scott (medium)
CB KJ Bolden (low)
CB Miles Lockhart (medium)

S Jaylen McClain
S probably another S?
Elijah Moore trending heavily to FSU currently, which feels a lot to me like Ohio State decided they didn’t want four WRs in the class and/or they’d rather hold a spot for JoJo Trader and only go to four WRs if it’s him.

Also, KJ Bolden is a S, my bad, so shift that over and I’m not sure if another DB spot is in the class or not.

So with the West commitment and likely Scott commitment coming up, the defensive side of the '24 class is coming along nicely. We have what I would imagine to be 2/3 of our LB class full with Stover and Pierce , and half or more of our DB class with West, McClain and (presumably) Scott. Obviously some more work to be done (particularly on DL obviously) but those are some really nice pieces to start with for sure.

So with that said, here is my best present guess on this class:

QB: Air Noland
RB: James People
RB: Jordan Lyle
RB: SWD (could be listed as an ATH)
WR: Jeremiah Smith
WR: Mylan Graham

WR: Jeremiah McLellan (IN if he's got the greenlight imo)
WR: Elijah Moore (same as McLellan, he would commit if the staff wants him to)

TE: Max LeBlanc
TE: Demarion Witten
OL: Ian Moore
OL: Marc Nave
OL: Armstrong twins

OL: Brandon Baker (not super optimistic, but we have a real shot...Lambert I am thinking is a very low chance)
DE: Eddrick Houston (looking really good at the moment, but kind of a believe it when I see it with a Buford kid)
DE: Marquise Lightfoot (feel good on landing him)
DE: Booker Pickett Jr. (I think we need 3 DE's and the rest on the target list don't seem likely to me...Rushing is a longshot, but we will pursue)
DT: Jayden Jackson (seems like a high chance to land him at the moment)
DT: Justin Scott (pipedream in all reality, just not sure who the other DT will be...I think we need two in this class)

LB: Peyton Pierce
LB: Garrett Stover

LB: Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (really like where we sit here and would predict him to be in this class)
CB: Bryce West (huge pickup this weekend
CB: Aaron Scott (still very confident he ends up in this class and soon, had a great visit to OSU this weekend)
CB: Miles Lockhart (also pretty high confidence on landing him and we need 3 CB's...other targets here seem very unlikely to me)

S: Jaylen McClain
S: KJ Bolden (reason to have some faith here, but I wouldn't hold my breath...I hope there is a contingency plan)

- Summary: We've gotta land the DE's we have prioritized or some combination of them. At DT, I wish we had more targets with offers, that position but it could be that the staff only sees 1 DT in this class after McDonald, Moore and Smith Jr. last year....kind of doubt that though, I think you want 2 DT's in about every class, position where depth is really important. Need a stud OL to add to what I think is a promising OL class thus far, maybe 2 more total. Pretty darn good start to the class though.

Thanks for putting this together.

Lambert cancelled his visit to PSU to go to Harvard instead. The favorite is Boston College.

It seems like he cares a lot about academics, which is fine and something Ohio State might be able to sell on (depending on his area of interest), but that also says he probably wants to stay close to home, which is not something that can be overcome.

I don’t think he ends up at Ohio State, and I get the impression academics > football for him anyway, which doesn’t scream impact starter to me.

With Baker and guys like Dylan Stewart, Birm is adamant that Ohio State can win if they can put together an NIL package that is competitive with the competition, because they have everything else going for them… specifically, very quick paths to the field for OT and DE.

Not a problem. Yeah it seems like Lambert is more focused on what is viewed to be a more prestigious academic school and like you said, nothing wrong with that. Whether that is ND, BC, etc., I just get the sense it won't be us...would love to be wrong though.

Almost put Dylan Stewart on my list with Baker, that is interesting if we just need a competitive NIL package. My impression is that both have us at the top or nearly there, so that would make sense if they are just trying to get NIL to seal the deal. Landing Stewart would be incredible if it happens, would go a long way towards our DE class. Max out the NIL resources for Baker and the DL imo.

To add on how well this class has started by a rankings perspective, using the Rivals overall player rankings we have the following: #2 (JJ Smith), #31 (West), #38 (Ian Moore), #42 (Graham, who most other sites have as a 5*), #64 (Lyle), #67 (Noland, who many have higher than that and is due for a ratings bump), #78 (Peoples, again other sites have him higher), and #87 (Pierce). Plus four other 4*s. You can look around at 247 and other services, but its objectively a good start and we just need to finish strong.

Rather than bump a bunch of threads, Fong on BM5 this morning:

Aaron Scott: still has him in for Ohio State

Guerby Lambert: nothing committal, Ohio State is on the short list but buzz is around ND

KVA: visit really, really moved the needle for Ohio State, this weekend could really pay a lot of dividends for Ohio State

Brandon Baker: Oregon probably leads but really good visit, Texas also in the mix

Kobe Black: he and his family really enjoyed trip to Ohio State, likes the culture, coaches, pedigree of development. Buckeyes are "way in" his recruitment

KJ Bolden: Ohio State has a great shot, OV was "awesome", mom loves Ohio State

Eddrick Houston: still has his CB on Ohio State and hasn't heard anything different

Dylan Stewart: Ohio State has a great shot, SC and Miami are recruiting him hard, a lot of people behind the scenes like Ohio State's position
