Ohio State’s 2022 signing class had some fun Wednesday as several prospects changed their profile pictures to retro photos of members of the Buckeyes’ coaching staff before sending in their national letters of intent. Turns out Ryan Day can give as well as he can take.

The Ohio State coach in turn changed his profile picture to a collage of photos from the signing class’ childhood. As of Thursday afternoon, he had not changed it back.

With 15 photos in the collage, Day was able to include almost all of Ohio State’s 17 signees. The Buckeyes had the No. 4 class nationally in the 247Sports team composite recruiting rankings and the top overall class in the Big Ten Wednesday night when the first day of the early signing period wrapped up.

People are allowed to have complex opinions that involve wanting players to be paid their value while also not being interested in CFB being just another pro league with recruiting becoming free agency and bags of cash being thrown around.

Like, there is room for some fucking nuance here, folks.

Of course people can have nuanced opinions but they should be able to make some sort of reasonable argument to support their position.

For instance; what's the difference between Fair Market Value and Bags of Cash? Who gets to decide? Why should they be allowed to decide? What's wrong with letting the market do its thing?

How do you know that? Have you seen any of the businesses involved share their ROI numbers? Have we seen any of the contracts? Anyone here able to give a good breakdown on the different laws by state?

I think throwing around phrases like "blank check slush fund", "gaming" and "sketchy" is more uniformed and reactionary "get off my lawn" type reactions to something new that people don't really have the first clue about. Absolutely zero basis for any of it other than unfounded fear.

As far as the idea that college football fans, specifically OSU fans, are somehow justifiably uncomfortable with spending money for wins and losses well that is hypocrisy to the point of absurdity given the revenues involved in the sport and the salaries of coaches.

It's been about money for a long, long time. The kids who pay the physical price to provide the entertainment that drives the revenue are finally getting at least some of that money and people want to get all sanctimonious about it.

Said this much better than I could. Dropping zillions on athletic facility upgrades and coaching salaries is cool but the people with the most skin in the game and are arguably primarily responsible for generating the obscene revenue? That’s just a step too far.

I don't have problems with bags of cash in recruitment at this point. That's basically what NIL allows. As long as it's not drug money or some shit and as long as they are paid what they are promised it's all good at this point. However I can see why coaches don't like that NCAA rules say they can't be involved even though from a free market perspective that's exactly what you want. The real question at this point is how do you curtail NIL finds from flashing bags of cash at people on other teams bench that are not already in the transfer portal. That's where this gets super messy at this point in addition to if someone doesn't get paid.

Common sense, don’t over complicate this. Lot of rich fans/boosters/etc will (and probably have been) pay recruits to come to their school so their team can win with no positive ROI benefit to a company that they own.

I like how OSU is #4 and people are disappointed, and TSUN is #9 and their fan base is elated.

Shows the actual disparity between the two programs.

With that said, OSU needs to nail down the whole NIL thing, and if they shit the bed next year we will start to feel the sting, and there will be parity with other teams in the Big 10 including TSUN.

A business is either going to get to claim a business expense, hope to actually drive revenue from the partnership or they aren't going to do it at a meaningful level. We are way beyond hundred dollar handshakes here.

It’s not just businesses, though. There are several guys like T. Boone Pickens around, who care about the success of their beloved football program, and don’t mind tossing millions at it without worrying about getting a boost in business related revenue.

I think it's mainly because we didn't do much to address the lines or DB's. We stocked up again at QB, RB, and WR but those weren't concerns. We're treading in Oklahoma territory

Day is happy. We are going to out score everyone. He wants a D that can beat Alabama..a power running team not so much. Question don’t you have to win conference to play in CFP. Is Day going to end up as the new Cooper who forgets about scUM? Time will tell.
