I could see Tennessee mistakenly hiring some guy named Jeff Heupel. We expect the normal powers that be in Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State to make that list, with Tennessee and new head coach Jeff Heupel making a push to keep the Volunteer State's top-ranked prospect within the borders.
If things stay status quo, have to imagine it stays in OSU's favor. Yes he's seen Bama, but his folks still haven't. I'd guess that's not enough of a delay for him to decide before visiting thoughIf this passes, does this help or hurt our chances with JTT?
Outlook
Ohio State has really zeroed in on Singleton, Alston, and Hayden at this point and would love to land one of those three prospects. There have been questions about whether or not this will be a two back class for the Buckeyes, like the 2021 class was.
With the way the roster is setup right now, it seems unlikely that there would be room for a second back in this class, though not impossible if there is some attrition. If this is truly going to be a one back class, it could be as simple as the first one of the top three on this list to commit getting that spot.
If for some reason things go sideways with the out-of-state targets, the Buckeyes have continued to keep tabs on Payne and Byrd as a couple of really good Ohio players. The two are differently stylistically with Byrd being more of a North/South one-cut back and Payne being a little better in space and catching the ball out of the backfield.
One of the Ohio stars could also be an option if the Buckeyes go with two backs in this class if there is some unexpected roster attrition. While there are some other notable out-of-state prospects who have been offered, it looks more likely that the Buckeyes would go with an in-state player if things fall through with Singleton, Alston, and Hayden.
