2022 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

You don't think it has an impact? He's been involved with a number of uncommitted prospects
Think of how many quality assistant coaches that we've most between Meyer and Day(i.e. Ash, Schiano, Herman, Drayton, Hafley, Vrabel, Fickel, Coombs). And we've been fine through all the losses. It's what happens. I'm sure Day can find an adequate replacement, hell he found Washington to join the staff who's to say he can't find another young talented defensive mind?

I'm terrified to think about the recruiting impact of losing Al Washington
Terrified? Aren't you going just a bit over the top?

I'll re-post here what I said in the Al Washington thread:

This is why that whole "comfort and relationships" theory of recruiting is so laughable....

If you're a successful program like Ohio State, you're going to lose coaches like Jeff Hafley and Al Washington to promotions.

If you're a struggling program like Michigan, you're going lose coaches like Don Brown and Ed Warriner to firings.

A recruit who commits to a school because he likes his position coach is, shall we say, short-sighted. Assistant coaches come and go, they are always on the move.

Ohio State will replace Al Washington with someone highly-qualified, and I doubt very much that the Buckeyes will lose any recruits over this.

Outlook

Ohio State is going to need to sign three cornerback prospects in this class and, as things stand today, the Buckeyes are 2/3 of the way there with early commitments from Jaheim Singletary and Jyaire Brown. Brown’s commitment has been considered a little bit shaky in recent weeks with programs like Notre Dame and LSU continuing to recruit the four-star prospect, so that will be something that will be continually monitored as things unfold in the coming months.

Singletary is a five-star prospect from Florida so it should be expected that other schools will continue to try and sway him from Columbus as well. With that said, Singletary has given no indication since his commitment that he is anything but all-in with Ohio State.

Even with a target number of three, it would seem unlikely that Ohio State would turn away two of the Johnson/Harris/Jackson trio if they could somehow pull it off. But that might be getting awfully greedy with Jackson committed to USC, Michigan possibly leading for Johnson, and Harris not visiting Columbus to this point.

If the Buckeyes could land someone like Johnson or Harris to add to the two they already have, it would be considered a monster haul and probably the nation’s best corner class.

Another name to watch is Ryan Turner out of Chaminade-Madonna in South Florida. Turner is one of the more recent offers the Buckeyes have put out so it will be interesting to see where that relationship goes over the next few months.

Kojo Antwi (four-star WR)
Crystal Balls: 50% Ohio State (1), 50% Georgia (1)

Aliou Bah (three-star OT)
Crystal Balls: 100% Ohio State (1)

Kiyaunta Goodwin (four-star OT)
Crystal Balls: 100% Ohio State (3)

Kyion Grayes (four-star WR)
Crystal Balls: 100% Ohio State (5)

Kenyatta Jackson (four-star WDE)
Crystal Balls: 50% Ohio State (1), 50% Clemson (1)

Xavier Nwankpa (four-star S)
Crystal Balls: 100% Ohio State (1)

Notes from 11W Forum...

1. 247 #3 DL Walter Nolen has top 2 of LSU and OSU acc. to Rivals. The LSU insider says they'll only take 1 DL next year which could leave OSU out front at this early juncture.

2.247 #5 DE Enai White's top 3 are OSU,Florida, and Oklahoma.

3.Same LSU Insider from above also says Denver Harris at the moment favors OSU over LSU.

I know this is ridiculously early for this stuff but still nice to see national recruits starting to recognize Ohio State as a force.

NOLEN SET TO RELEASE TOP SCHOOLS LIST
As we've said quite a bit over the past week or two, defensive tackle remains one of the Buckeyes' top priorities in the 2022 cycle. They will be looking to land at least two at the position with Caden Curry being the player we like the most to wind in Ohio State's haul.

There is another huge name out there, however, that Larry Johnson and Co. have some mega competition to get going forward.

If they could land the biggest fish of them all at that position, it would certainly lock down that spot in the class, and the Buckeyes are at least in the mix to do that with five-star defensive tackle Walter Nolen.

We expect the normal powers that be in Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State to make that list, with Tennessee and new head coach Jeff Heupel making a push to keep the Volunteer State's top-ranked prospect within the borders.
