2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

That class had 30 signees. It had a score of 296.03.

Now let's take out the 12 players who transferred and one who quit due to injuries. The score goes down to 248.07, which is much more realistic.

Now let's take out the 2 players who went early entry into the NFL. The score goes down to 218.28. That's what left of that historic class.

Now let's compare Michigan's top 5 signees for the Class of 2017 with Ohio State's:

Michigan
1. Donovan Peoples-Jones (All Big Ten honorable mention; late round pick)
2. Aubrey Solomon (transferred to Tennessee)
3. Cesar Ruiz (2nd team All Big Ten; 2nd round pick)
4. Luiji Vilain (complete bust so far)
5. Drew Singleton (transferred to Rutgers)

Ohio State
1. Chase Young (All American; top-5 pick)
2. Jeffrey Okudah (All American; top-5 pick)
3. Baron Browning (solid player, somewhat disappointing)
4. Shaun Wade (returning starter; future high draft pick)
5. Wyatt Davis (All American; future high draft pick)
Baron will shine this year. Played out of position a lot so far in his career.

Great comparison.

But also fun to watch what has happened to their recruiting since.

The top five you listed for UM were rated the #12, 23, 47, 57 and 79 in the country.
For 2020 (their most recent completed class) their top five were #101, 122, 128, 151 and 161.

Three All-Americans verses a second-team and an honorable-mention All-B1G. Pftftft, you act like there's some sort of talent disparity or something...

Baron is about the 9th-11th best player in OSU's class. He'd be ahead of everyone but Ruiz and Collins in UM's class, and putting Nico above him requires ignoring his production at UM and imagining him in a proper offense.

New offer out there...........

Link

Pat Coogan, a 6-foot-5, 275-pound offensive tackle from Marist High School in Chicago, became the fourth player in this cycle from Illinois to receive an offer from the Buckeyes. Coogan has been in contact with the Buckeyes since the middle of the fall, and he had planned on visiting Columbus this spring before the recruiting suspensions were put in place.

But on Monday, Ryan Day called up Coogan to give him the offer, which left Coogan “very excited,” he told Eleven Warriors. “It was just a very happy moment for me.

“(Coach Day) didn’t say much, but he made sure I knew he wants me to be on their team. He said I will fit in great and be able to thrive.”

Coogan and Ohio State offensive line coach Greg Studrawa have been building a relationship over the last few months, and their bond has become pretty strong.

“He’s great. Very personable guy,” Coogan said. “(We talk) almost every day. We have a great relationship.”

Coogan is ranked as the No. 45 offensive tackle in the nation, the No. 14 prospect in Illinois, and he sits at No. 445 overall. His rankings, though, don't match an offer sheet of 25 programs, which is highlighted by Stanford, Notre Dame, Oregon, Duke and Oklahoma State in addition to the Buckeyes.

Many scouts believe his rankings are set to rise over the next year (though if the camp circuit is affected by the coronavirus pandemic, that could hurt his chances there) and that he is a riser in the 2021 class. Coogan is likely to see his offer sheet increase further, and that's one reason Day and Studrawa have been building that relationship since the fall and are offering him now – the early impressions could go far as Coogan rises.

But still, even if those rankings do rise, Coogan is a developmental tackle or guard (he plays left guard at Marist) who has good fundamentals and a quick first step off the ball that a college program can work with.

As our own Colin Hass-Hill pointed out on Tuesday, the Buckeyes are not opposed to building a core of developmental offensive linemen so Coogan is certainly an attractive option in that regard.

Committed to ND, which was an absolute given.

SKULL SESSION: BUCKEYES SET TO MAKE NFL DRAFT HISTORY, CHASE YOUNG WANTS TO SACK LAMAR JACKSON AND OHIO STATE IS LAPPING EVERYONE ELSE ON THE RECRUITING TRAIL

THE REAL RECRUITING RACE.
Forget the team recruiting rankings. Ohio State is damn near lapping the field and is probably going to be adding another five-star or three. To quote Brent Musburger, "this baby's over, this race."

The real question at this point is much more fascinating – will the Buckeyes finish with more top-10 recruits or top-10 recruiters? Because right now, it's looking way too close to call.

Personally, I'm hoping for a tie at 10, but I guess I'd reluctantly settle for a tie at five.

To add to what 0h8ch said.....last year #101 for Meatchicken was a WR. tOSU had all FOUR of our WRs ranked higher than that guy. In addition, the fourth WR was ranked about 12-13 in that class. The spread gets wider, and wider. Not certain how they'll ever catch up. Go Buckeyes.

They had 3 good to great WR talents. DPJ was a can't miss home grown stud. He did very little, and had a bigger impact as a returner than a WR (sound familiar?).

The one that flashed the earliest, Black, was barely used and is transferring.

The only one left is Collins, who has been a steady performer despite having woeful QBs. It's shocking how big he is in person, and I remember thinking that many years ago.

Their next wave of talent is not within miles of that.

In you want to see a desperate fanbase recklessly root for and attempt to tie a recruit to a rape allegation just because said recruit didn’t pick their school, check out the Husky message boards:

Apologies for even going there on an OSU board, but I read your post and couldn't help but think..........What would our fan base be like if say two years ago Harrison followed through with leaving home to go to Ann Arbor and someone brought up the same type of allegation against him? Would it maybe be similar? (sorry Zack for the unsavory comparison)

The comparison would be if a baseball recruit chose UF, and that would be just as inexcusable.
