2020 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I think the jury is out on OL imo... as already mentioned, it's a position that's tough to predict. Look at our OL this year...Myers and Davis were top ranked 5 stars. Jackson was like a 2 or 3 star transfer that turned into a stud. Bowen was a 3 star and had a great career here. I think Munford was a high 3 star/ low 4 star. In this class, all of our commits has early offers and jumped on them. I trust the staff, if they liked those guys enough to offer them so early and accept their pledges, then that's good enough for me. Not like we had to offer some Plan B or C guys later on after we missed on targets.

On DL, I think it was a decent class. I think Cowan is criminally underrated. Henry has a upon of upside, but is going to need time imo. Hamilton I'm not super high on to be blunt, but if he's anything like his brother, he'll prove me wrong like Davon has. And I'd point out that the 2021 DL class is going to be MONSTER.

I'll give my standard BPRT breakdown on this class, but I think it was a stellar class with all things considered.

The fact we have a big time recruit like Johnson makes up for anything IMO... he's probably the best OL recruit we've had in the past 20 years.

Very happy with the class.

Just would have liked to see a little more on each side of the trenches, CB, and RB.

It’s just a really lopsided class in that way. I can’t imagine a realistically better QB and WR class. I mean they both get a solid A.

If I had to choose, I'd rather have it this way than the other. I'd rather build the class from the trenches outward rather than trying to get power and speed on the outside at the expense of being kinda soft in the middle.

Johnson was the critical cog in this class, absolutely. He's going to be a stud LT that starts early. And Wypler is a guy that I see as much of a sure thing as possible. I think Toutant can be very good also. James and Leroux I have no idea on, but the staff pursued them early and clearly believes in them. And there's a number of OL I love from the 2019 class. I like where we're at on the OL, especially with Stud showing he can coach them up.

Like the above. With 110 schollies, you could pretty much stack everything higher. But when the NCAA cut scholarships down to 85 (to level out the playing field), you simply cannot keep everything even. Sooooo, you have to fill the holes as best you can. Like all the skill players we have, think Hartline will have trouble spreading the time around, RB seems to have someone 'emerge' every year. Wasn't Master Teague a 3* as a recruit? Well, he worked his butt off, became mentally alert, and was what- 3rd team B10 at RB? Someone else will emerge. Always (well, almost always) do. And building the OL and DL is the best way to go. Cannot complete passes when you're scrambling for your life, nor cover the WRs forever if there's no DL push. I like our OL depth, we've got the #1 OL for the last two years, and darn good DL guys that are just waiting their turn. Need more depth at DL for next year, as more than a few will run out of eligibility. It's a good time to be a Buckeye. Don't forsee any of the B10 catching tOSU from a talent level in the near future. Go Bucks! Merry Christmas.....

Was that the NCAA’s rationale in lessening scholarship quantity? Kind of seems like the conceptof parity is even further away now than when it was prior to the change; that’s just my opinion.

It's absolutely helped parity for the mid level teams like Wisky and MSU.

They would be starved of their supply of 3 star Ohio kids who weren't recruited by OSU if it was like the old days of unlimited (or nearly so) scholarships. They would all be buried in the OSU depth chart and unable to transfer 30 years ago.

At the top of CFB today you have recruiting superpowers who have just figured out how to get the elite of the elite talent better than everyone else. So outside of, say, 5 teams parity reigns in CFB imo.

Title 9.
It’s the same reason wrestling programs have been gutted, and why there are more scholarships for women’s hoops then men’s et al.

Matt James is legit. how he only has 3 stars is lost on me. kid is a beast and well coached. he’s going to be a mauler at guard with the intelligence and versatility to slide out to RT or inside to C.

Jakob, you mean?

Matt’s the Cincy OL recruit who went to Nd and ended up dying after falling from a balcony. Thanks for remembering that, you stupid, useless brain.
