Putting in PDX
Two easy answers:
1). Location - the talent within a five hour radius of Atlanta is absolutely phenomenal.
2). Draft Day - like it or not, Dawgs get drafted by alot of NFL teams.
Belicheck has personally come to Athens to work out players each of the past three seasons. Recruits see the best coach in Football spending that much time evaluating (and drafting) talent and it makes a difference.
You don't have to tell me we have had some disappointments. Look at my last four years of posting to get a better handle on that.
But there is a very, very easy explanation for why kids choose Georgia.
Having lived in Atlanta for 8 years and Athens for 2, it is no surprise why student athletes would go to UGA. Not just football, but the overall talent in North GA would make any athletic department salivate. The facilities at UGA are nice, it has history, Athens is a full blown college town catered to the students. I mean, even if you fail on the field your gonna score somehow.
