2020 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

And just so folks can sleep at night...

Bryan Bresee - DE who is the #1 player in the country = 50% CB to OSU
Mekhail Sherman - LB who is #15 overall - 100% OSU
Darrion Henry - LB who is #46 overall - 100% OSU

That is as far as I looked. I know if they aren't top 50 we don't want them.

I also like our chances with RJ Mickens, DB out of Texas....son of Ray Mickens who played in the league for almost 10 years.

Tre Williams will commit and he's a Top 100 kid.

Trayanum might be a LB, honestly I don't know if he'll be a RB or OLB.

Plus always in-state kids that show out that will have a chance; Daved Jones, Sammy Anderson out of Trotwood that is a 6'2 CB.

Last I checked, Bresees been trending away though - Wiltfong CB’ed him to PSU.

Would be a bummer to lose the #1 overall guy when we were in the lead.

LBs are good for sure! But how are we looking for CBs? Really need to bring in a couple top tier guys on the corners.

I feel like I’m having deja va to that one time, a long time ago, when a top DE was “trending away” and Wiltfong CB’d him to another team in the division.

I mean sure, there’s exceptions to every rule. And I’m not saying by any means that Bresee is a PSU lock. Just pointing out that we should be cautious with our optimism. We were also the far and away early CB leaders for Darnell Wright, Micah Parsons, and Trey Smith.

I understand where you are coming from, but when the "elite" guys get offered 2-3 years before they make a decision a lot can change. And as they learn more about the schools and take more visits, staying the favorite is much harder to do.

For most, when an early OSU offer comes, that immediately catapults the Bucks high up on their list. And once that offer comes, if Bama, Clemson, and UGA haven't offered yet it's coming soon. And that's how it works for all the elite programs.

Getting to the top of the leaderboard 2 yrs before the athletes have to make a decision is the easy part. Sealing the deal on signing day is what these coaches get paid big $ for.

Just look at the 2020 class (or any class for that matter) and the early projections of the guys we "thought" OSU would land. Those names have already changed quite a bit. I still feel that 2020 has the makings of a special class if a few guys fall our way, but we've already seen a few of those pieces slip away since the departure of Urban.

I, personally, have tempered my expectations for the 2020 class until I see the 2019 on-field product. And I would imagine some recruits are probably treating their recruiting process the same way.

I feel you, but I still think even the decommits I like our chances to bring back. I'm pretty amped to keep most of our 2019 class because 2020 will come together, it will just take a little time. That's fine so long as Day and the staff make the relationships and put a good product out next year, which I have confidence in. If things don't come apart at the seems next year, I think we'll love what we see for the 2020 class. I'll follow that up with my updated prediction soon.

The idea that a junior in HS who verballed to a program being led by an historic coach isn't going to look around when said coach retires is silly. It is the smart thing to do, frankly. They went from knowing what they were getting into to not knowing as much. That's not to say that they won't be swayed back into the fray, but to look at their options? Of course they would. As they should.
