tOSU Recruiting Discussion

"and he is ass my dude" is a solid quote no context needed

some pretty interesting names in the pro style recruits in 2016

1. Shea Patterson
6. Brandon Peters
7. Some guy named Haskins who I've never heard of
11. Messiah DeWeaver
16. Some guy named Zach Smith
21. Nick Starkel
26. Justin Herbert who I guess is the #1 pick when he comes out for reasons no one understands
I feel like Herbert is getting the Josh Allen/Jake Locker/Jamaracus Russel treatment. Everyone is ooh'd and ahh'd by the fact he's 6'5/6'6 athletic and can throw it mile that they forget to check if they are anything past a mediocre QB.

None of that was really interesting, or even surprising, or shocking. All is well known in recruiting, and I guarantee you the kids and their parents would do it again for a shot at a school. The game is known to be rigged against players, and the coaches hold the winning hands. At best a kid can get a full ride scholarship and hope he's part of the 1%(less than that) that makes it to a professional league. Its a sad, stark, but well documented and known reality.

That's a pretty gentle article, which is mostly centered around the confusing amounts of interest.

Where it gets really ugly is what happens to that loyal kid who got an committable offer and shut it down early without flirting with others afterwards, but is dumped because he has no agreement whatsoever if the school becomes infatuated with someone else later.

Or the loyal kid who signs with a school, loves the coach and his system, and the coach leaves before he hits campus and the next coach runs a completely different system, derailing a kids career.
Or the kid who commits to his dream school, and later in the process is asked to pay his own way as a grayshirt to make room for a higher profile kid.

Look at Nester.

His two choices are a school with an unproven HC and probably eventually a new OL coach (but not one he gets to meet now) or a school where huge droves of kids are fleeing (and it's arguable whether they've even matched Sparty or Michigan in the division, and not debatable how they stack up to OSU)

grayshirt as a way to get him to want to leave while still "offering" him a future with you.

Or look at all the kids who committed to Temple and "then" coach Manny Diaz, only less than a month later, he leaves an entire class, after promising them that he'd be there for them... Still arguably the worst case of coaches fleeing for another job opportunity.

https://247sports.com/LongFormArtic...a-Texas-Georgia-talent-128622751/#128622751_3

Number of players ranked within 247Sports Composite Top 150: 4

Primary talent-producers: Mentor (Mentor) — Two of Mentor's FBS signees are four-stars and both have signed with Ohio State (Ryan Jacoby and Noah Potter).

The Top 5 from Ohio: Zach Harrison, SDE, Olentangy Orange, Lewis Center (No. 12 nationally, No. 2 at his position); Jowon Briggs, DT, Walnut Hills, Cincinnati (No. 75 nationally, No. 7 at his position); Zeke Correll, C, Anderson, Cincinnati (No. 95 nationally, No. 3 at his position); Cade Stover, OLB, Lexington, Mansfield (No. 114 nationally, No. 7 at his position), Nolan Rumler, OG, Archbishop, Akron (No. 174 nationally, No. 10 at his position).

Tracking the Top 50 who have signed and where: Michigan (6); Michigan State (6); Ohio State (5); Purdue (5); Kentucky (3); Virginia (1); TCU (1); Mizzou (1); Iowa (1); Boston College (1); Cincinnati (1); Northwestern (1); West Virginia (1); Rutgers (1); Toledo (1); Washington State (1); Ohio (1); Wisconsin (1); Notre Dame (1); Iowa State (1)

The word: The Buckeyes earned signatures from five of the Top 9 players in the state (per the Composite), finishing the deal on relationships established during the Urban Meyer era and keeping those players committed despite his departure in December. Jeff Brohm (Purdue) and Jim Harbaugh (Michigan) also did a great job this cycle reaching into Ohio for talent.
OSU continuing to keep the top in state talent at home. Ohio yet again is the only top 10 state in producing HS football talent, making recruiting nationally that much more important to win on the big stage.

Nester is probably a gaurd who is probably going to Va Tech

Jones is definitely an OT who is probably going to tOSU

The Hawaii kid is a gaurd and I have no clue where he is going and most people don’t seem worked up because he won’t be a factor in his future team until the 2022-2024 seasons because of his mission trips.

So this late signing season couldn’t be more anticlimactic.

You can’t teach size like Jones and he seems athletic at that size. Lots to work with. Hope he has the determination that Munford has shown. If he does? That’s rad. I’m all in.

If the Polynesian pipe line kicks in, I’m all for it. He seems like a bright young man and I’m all for adding to future depth with a mature older guy. (No disrespect, just can’t remember or spell his name)

Nester, if he signs will be a curious case because I don’t think he wants to be here but who knows. Still, he just doesn’t seem like he is going to sign so....good luck.

What’s weird is OL is the hardest to predict and it’s our most glaring need right now and for all we know we could sign two future starters in 3-4 years that could quite possibly be very important “gets” and yet they would be signing as unceremoniously as you could imagine given the glaring need. That’s weird.

(OL depth is most crucial ollowed by the secondary but nobody else is coming in this class, so....)
