tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Not to much this forum....

But it never ceases to amaze me how alleged adults freak out in every way imaginable because some 17 year old makes a decision that he (the kid) feels is the best for him. More than that, how that kid making a decision for HIS future somehow means the adults running the show at whatever school should now be fired immediately.

If you don't think people are having this reaction because of the KVA commitment, I beg to differ. It's absolutely out there and it's pathetic.
This is one of those times that reminds us why BP is truly great. I'm on the paid Rivals site (huge fan of Birm) and aside from insiders I don't like it there.

I think a lot of it has to do with the self policing of this board and the fact that we have almost all followed recruiting for a long time. When the gap between expectations and reality is too wide, anger soon follows.

Now, where's my bong?

eh.

Coaches get paid a lot of money to get the right kids to feel their future is at school x. If they fail to do that job well enough, they catch heat.

Some will take it further than others and there will be debate about what's good enough and what isn't but the reaction, in general, really shouldn't surprise anyone.

Catching heat is far different from expectations of landing every target and immediate termination if that "goal" is not met.

But then again, this fanbase has a self-loathing (not to mention a bloat) in it that seems to show up every time something doesn't go perfectly so...yeah. I agree with @Crump's brother - thankfully BP isn't like that very much.

I think it's silly either way. Rarely do recruits walk onto the field and take over to the point where not having them in year 1 would matter. If anything, the chances of KVA not being an impact player (either at Ohio State or NoD or USC) are higher than the chances of him being whatever it is the screeching ninnies are imagining him to be now that he's committed elsewhere.

Might need to do some self policing on yourself mate. Keep paying for a site when you can get all the goods here for free, well after the $49.99 introductory fee of course.

Well, July is turning out quite a bit different than expected with several misses. I'm still confident on Scott but if that turns south on us, we're going to have issues on the defensive side of this class. Still lots of big names left in Scott, Bolden, Stewart, and Houston, but we might need to sweep that list to have a championship caliber class on defense.

Again, unless OSU loses one the numbers are pretty good. This kid would have been nice, but this was not nuclear.

Losing out on Scott would sting more, because we need those kids.

We have the biggest fanbase in the country. It's going to have it's share of emotional cripples/idiots. They will all have access to the internet. Worrying about them making fools of themselves, or that it somehow reflects on others, is silly to me.

A grown up conversation could be had about defense, defensive recruiting and individual wins/losses on the recruiting trail, regardless of the ever present band of noisy children. Depending on how things continue to go, it's going to come up. It isn't like Knowles, or any part of the team he's responsible for, have been covering themselves in glory the past couple of years.

My question is, say OSU loses out on Scott. But its because he wanted to be a part of scUM, and embracing his role as a villain or not wanting to attend school in state. Is that loss, along with losing Lightfoot to Miami because OSU was outbid, or KVA choosing ND because of his OSU not being able to recruit? I don't see those as examples of OSU not being able to recruit, but recruits choosing other programs for whatever reason. Though I know many in the fan bases will be quick to get their torches out for Knowles and company just like many did last year for LJsr. But if a kid picks another school for his own reasons, I don't see how that reflects on the coaches recruiting prowess.
