tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Some guys coming back that many thought would declare early. Do we still think it will be 21-23?
93 current count
-2 NFL (Lattimore, Baugh or Samuel)
------------------
91
-2 non renewed 4th year juniors
------------------
89
-1 kicker (grayshirt or sean leaves)
------------------
88

Meaning they're 3 over with 17 commits.

88
+2 Okudah, Holmes
-----------------------
90 (19 recruits)

I think they'd add 3 more if they're the right guys, Jaylen Harris, Tufele and an OT to be named later. If Tufele (and other DTs) said no, I could see them not using the spot. There are a LOT of backup WRs and OL that aren't going to play here, and a few other spots that need to step up quickly if they haven't already planned to depart.

So I'd say 21-23 is spot on, except it might be 20-22 with Lewis returning.

Interesting math at beginning. So you expect one of Baugh or Samuel to declare? I've always thought Samuel would. Hadn't thought about Baugh. Actually, I forgot we had Tight Ends.

Samuel was saying he'd come back but you have to worry. There's been lots of baugh NFL declaration chatter for no apparent reason.

Buckeye Football Mailbag: Let's Get Offensive!

Will the debacle in the desert have any adverse affect on this years recruiting class?

No. In fact, if you are a recruit on the offensive side of the ball and you watched that game, there's no reason for you to think that you can't play for Ohio State next year. Heck, there is no reason for a cornerback commit to think that he can't play offense for the Buckeyes next season. And speaking of cornerbacks, the Buckeyes will likely be losing two starters there and we already know they're losing Malik Hooker at safety. There are openings on the depth chart in the secondary and if you look at the defensive backs that Ohio State is putting into the NFL, then 31-0 doesn't really mean much to a kid who wants to play professional football.

Ohio State Football: Silver Lining With Players Moving On

A look at how these Ohio State players can still help the program even though they are leaving for the NFL.

Every Buckeye fan would love to see three players leaving for the NFL wear Scarlet and Gray one more season. However, Malik Hooker, Gareon Conley and Raekwon McMillan will still help Ohio State by turning pro. Their individual stories will be an inspiration to prospective recruits as well as players on the current roster.

Hooker and Conley are examples of what players can achieve at Ohio State if they persevere. A four star recruit is often extremely disappointed when he is red-shirted his first year and has to battle his way up the depth chart. Often they think the grass may be greener elsewhere and will consider transferring to another school.

Now, after two outstanding seasons as a starter, he is ready for the NFL. Don’t you think any top recruit would love to have that same opportunity?

As much as Buckeye fans would love to see these three players wear Scarlet and Gray one more time, it just makes sense for them to move on to the NFL. And Malik Hooker, Gareon Conley and Raekwon McMillan will still be helping the Buckeyes by doing so.

So Sheffield? That was my original question, does he mean Holmes is not coming since it appears Okudah already has roommates?

As much as I hate it for kids, it appears there are going to be some "medicals" and others that weren't planning to transfer finding new schools

No, Sheffield is independent. And he's probably deciding after.

We know Collier is likely taking a GA position or will transfer. It appears Stump will transfer to YSU for immediate PT and stay close to home.

I don't think either of these are secrets and have been discussed openly but that would be two of the openings already...

11W has reported the final number would be 5
I don't mean that we take 5 more, I mean at least 5 or more are going to have a hard conversation with Coach. And really, if we take 5 more and make it 23, if Lattimore comes back too, it is going to get really tight in the locker room for some upper classmen that have not seen the field. We have to be at 85.

Oh I see what you're saying. Idk of the exact number of players that will have "the talk", but I'm sure we can all deduce some names. I'm pretty sure those upperclassman already see the writing on the wall, as I'm sure they also follow the recruiting classes, and also know how epic this 2017 one may be...
