Has a team ever won a game before by only kicking field goals?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

LSU vs. Alabama 2011.......9-6 in OT

Sorry, couldn't resist

Actually, the question is supposed to be, "Has a team ever won a game before by only kicking field goals with the other team scoring only touchdowns?"

The closest I can recall was Appalachian St with 10 field goals and two safeties beating Michigan who had five touchdown and three missed point after kicks.

It seems to me at this point that with losing out on kief, Meyer still wants a big WR in this class, and its race to see who'll commit first between roberts, blacknall and noah brown. With numbers being tight I could only see us taking one of those, though I'd love to see, most definitely brown. Roberts reminds me more of a stoneburner/hernandez than a true TE. Though he can be used at times as a TE to draw mismatches. I think we could get roberts (or any of the 3) and still get gesicki and be fine

I'm really surprised by the amount of top-end talent in New Jersey, Virginia, and Louisiana this year. I can't even recall the last time Ohio had that much elite talent in one year.

Honestly you shouldn't be. VA puts out elite talent in the southeast 757 area every year, and has a large number of guys in the nfl from that small region. Now the the northern areas are putting out top tier guys too. Va tech made their name from that region alone. And jersey hasbeen putting out top talent for a while, they just menever stay in state for college. And also a number of kids from nyc move or go to schools in new jersey instead of staying in the city. I'm more suprised that new york city has been putting out top talent. And louisiana has been putting out some of the best for a while too. Lousiana, alabama, mississippi and Georgia are starting to catch up to florida, cali and texas as far as talent.

I believe Jersey would have much better talent if we had the same college-level quality HS coaches Ohio has.. IMO we only have a handful of elite HS coaches.. so again, IMO I think this is why we 'produce' speed 'talent' vs overall position talent...

Yes and no.

Georgia has the population base and has been putting out great numbers for a long time. Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi have great per capita numbers but don't have the population base to compete with Florida, Texas, California, Ohio and Georgia in terms of raw number of D1 prospects.

Agreed, except Louisiana is different than all those as they consistently have the best talent per capita. It's a hot bed, especially for DL. They usually always carry more 5* talent each year, especially this year when you look at Fournette (who has been raved about by regional scouts there for 5 years, yes, 5), Robinson, Gerald Willis, etc.

Per capita, I think FL/CA surprise and not in a good way.

When it comes to coaching, I think OH/TX always stand out from the rest, but others have been steadily improving, most notably GA. I used to work for a southern based recruiting site so I got a good feel for southern talent & staffs down there.

Ohio and texas have the coaching, but when I lived in austin, it seemed the coaches were paid on a higher scale and given the best facilities that schools and towns in ohio can't afford or won't put the same funds towards the football programs. It still baffles me that Allen, tx has a $60m stadium. Imo, you'd never see that in ohio or any other state

I also forgot to mention tennessee in the conversation with alabama, mississippi and louisiana as putting out a lot of top talent now

I'm not sure what the exact data says, but there are coaches in Texas that pull 6 figures, and most average big schools will pay 40K+ for HC's.

The facilities go without question; while Ohio on a national perspective have excellent facilities it's not even close. A Massillon stands out here, there it's just one of the big boys.

To me, TN/AL/MI are all similar, LA is closer to GA than to those 3.
