tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I am entertaining the idea more and mroe of Will Ulmer as an all-purpose back, much like Denard Robinson, but not as a QB. Bring him in with another guy (Watson, Barker, Henderson), let him compete, and if he does nto win the job he sees the field in the Slot and the backfield as an APB.

Question is, would he agree to that? I'm sure the rest of the schools pursuing him want him to play qb solely and not just be used in packages and trick plays. It would be quite humbling to go from being a highly ranked qb to a part time qb. He kind of reminds me of pat white from wvu. I think he can be a very good spread qb who can use his athleticism to move chains. But like most dual threat qbs, he needs to work on his passing because he's used to being the best athlete on the field in HS

I could see that. Like Antwaan Randel-El in the pros, he would add the dangerous skill of being able to throw the ball accurately out of the backfield while fulfilling a WR/APB role. Reverses, WR screens in the flat, and sweeps suddenly become even trickier plays to defend and gives the defense more to think about.

Maybe like Jalin Marshall. Maybe like Tim Tebow in his first year.

So with this talk, here is an extremely early guess at how the class could fill out. This list is a semi-realistic wishlist. The italicized players are the ones I feel fairly confident about:
1. QB: DeShaun Watson (GA)/Drew Barker (KY)/Will Ulmer (MD)
2. RB: Jonathan Haden (D.C.)/Elijah Hood (NC)
3. WR: Marshon Lattimore (OH)/Demare Kitt (GA)/Artavis Scott (FL)/Saeed Blacknall (NJ)
4. WR: Thaddeus Snodgrass (OH)/Dominique Booth (IN)
5. WR: Myles Autry (GA)/Josh Malone (TN)/Isaiah Ford (FL)
6. TE: Jeb Blazevich (NC)/Mark Andrews (AZ)/Garrett Dickerson (NJ)
7. OL: Orlando Brown (GA)/Alex Bars (TN)
8. OL: Damian Prince (MD)/Quenton Nelson (NJ)/Marcelys Jones (OH)
9. OL: Jamarco Jones (IL)/Sam Mustipher (MD)/Natrell Curtis (AZ)
10. DL: Deshawn Hand (VA)/Andrew Brown (VA)/Lorenzo Carter (GA)/Anthony Moten (FL)
11. LB: Raekwon McMillan (GA)
12. LB: Clifton Garrett (IL)
13. LB: Dante Booker (OH)/Kyle Berger (OH)
14. DB: Quin Blanding (VA)/Montae Nicholson (PA)/Laurence Jones (LA)
15. DB: Jabrill Peppers (NJ)/Jalen Tabor (D.C.)/Tony Brown (TX)
16. DB: Nick Glass (GA)/Quincy Wilson (FL)/D'Andre Payne (D.C.)
17. ATH: Jalen Hurd (TN)/Lonnie Johnson (IN)/Jalen Brown (AZ)

- If we get an extra scholarship or two to give out, I would guess it goes towards LB or OL. I am interested to see how OL and WR shakes out. I think we want AT LEAST two true tackles, ideally Prince, Brown, and maybe add Jones. At WR you can bank on Lattimore and Snodgrass (if they take him), plus Autry looks awfully likely and no way we turn him down. Beyond those 3, there appear to be plenty of talented takers and UFM loves him some playmakers.

LB appears to be the least drama. I'm extremely confident McMillan is in, with a VERY high chance on Garrett and Booker. I would think we only have room for 3.
You forgot to italicize Marcelys Jones and he was our first commit for 2014. I don't know what this does about the rest of the list:wink:

First I've heard of Ruffin visiting. No thread yet but he has early offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, UNC, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Projects as a DB at the next level, IMO.

No Malik McDowell? This kid is about to blow up, IMO he is one of the most important prospects in this class. He can be a Stephon Tuitt clone for us, an absolute monster in the making

I would love to have him here, I just don't see him being a serious possibility at this point. But it's early, you never know.
