Ohio State Recruiting: Prep Report

For most of the Buckeye commits, the playoffs are now underway as they finish out their high school careers. After this past week, 11 of the 17 commits are still playing football.

Just think if he's saying 6-8 then someone he trusts told him that, doubt he came up with that number on his own.

A month ago a class consisting of...

Gibson or 1 OOS WR (Quick, Elder, Timmons etc)
Worley or Bell
Mike Mitchell or 1 other LB (Trey Johnson, McMillian, Moore etc)
David Dawson or Dorian Johnson

...would have been fantastic.

The possibility of potentially replacing the 'or's with 'and's is almost unbelievable.

11W Recruiting Notebook: Bye Week

The bye week is also a great time to sit back and reflect, not only on OSU's 10-0 season, but also on the staff's efforts on the recruiting trail. Urban and the rest of the coaches have done an outstanding job recruiting the class of 2013 so far, with 17 verbal commits on board already.

It is starting to look like there will be more room than anticipated for this class and the group could end up numbering 24 or 25 when Signing Day rolls around in February. Because of this, the staff has started to be more aggressive in their pursuit of some of the top prospects in the country.

This week Miles, Derek, and I do some reflecting of our own when it comes to recruiting, as we look at the players remaining on the board and give you our predictions (with commentary) on where they will end up. Random, unnecessary speculation- if we land Conley that would allow Burrows to move to safety if needed and cover for not landing Bell (I think Worley is a LB/star and not a pure safety).

It would still be great to bring in Bell, but the bottom line is that this staff continues to do an amazing job recruiting and whoever finishes out the class it will be another fantastic group.

As others have already said, I look forward to what this staff can do with the head start on the '14 class during what would be bowl practice and into the future (already offers out to '15 and '16 recruits ).

I am dreaming of Conley AND Bell, allowing tremendous lock down coverage all over the field.

The fact that the coaching carousel is about to start spinning for several significant programs, and by domino affect, other lesser schools with great up-and-coming coaches (ala Louisville/Charlie Strong), this bodes well for a recruiting-rabid coaching staff with time to burn and one heck of a product to sell.

This staff is going to end this class much like Urban started ending our last class 12 months ago... en fuego.

Mitchell and Johnson seals this one as a top 10 class with lots of filled needs. If we get those other guys too, this is a top 3 to 5 class with michigan's grim reaper aboard!

Technically, OSU is #7 on 247. They are, however, #3 in 247's composite rankings, which are based on the rankings of a number of several recruiting services.

ESPN - Meyer visits Watson, Johnson, Rogers

Urban Meyer was near his old stomping ground Friday and visited high schools with quite a few big names in the Peach State.

One of the most notable names was dual-threat quarterback and Clemson commit DeShaun Watson (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville).

He checked in with ESPN 150 inside linebacker and Auburn commit Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) as well as ESPN Watch List outside linebacker Korie Rogers (Buford, Ga./Buford).

Georgia got some love from Ohio State on Friday.

With ESPN Watch List quarterback DeShaun Watson (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville), ESPN 150 inside linebacker and Auburn commit Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) and ESPN Watch List outside linebacker Korie Rogers (Buford, Ga./Buford) already paid a visit, the Buckeyes were at it again.

This time, Ohio State checked in with Georgia commit and ESPN 150 safety Nick Glass (Atlanta/St. Pius X) and his teammate cornerback Nick Ruffin.
