tOSU Recruiting Discussion

If we indeed have 5 spots left to make 22 total (not seeming that unlikely with recent attrition of TY, Southward, and Wood), my ideal finish would be:
1) OT Dorian Johnson
2) WR James Quick
3) WR Demorea Stringfellow
4) S Vonn Bell
5) LB Mike Mitchell

.

I agree largely with this. I went ahead and added a sixth spot, because I would be shocked if Big Hank came back. I know he's spoken about competing for a national championship, but he is a lock to be top 10 pick in the draft. You can't pass that up.

1) OT Dorian Johnson
2) WR James Quick
3) WR Tony Stevens
4) S Vonn Bell
5) LB Mike Mitchell
6) LB/S Chris Worley

Note: I would LOVE to see Timmons in this class. I don't know if there is room at this point, but I think he would be absolutely dynamic in this offense.

A finish like this would be off the charts in terms of talent and incredibly balanced too. I simply can't imagine a mix of DB's and safeties like that or the mix of offensive talent. Just nasty.

If my math is correct, with Southward's departure, we are at 20 spots. If Jamie Wood takes medical hardship as expected and Hankins declare for the NFL, that's 22 spots. There's also the possibility of Roby declaring and increasing talk that unlike past years, fifth years would not be automatically given to largely non-contributors (from Scout insiders). I think it's safe to go with 24 at this point, which means we have seven more spots.

Composite of my wishlist/ realistic outcome:

1). Shelton Gibson
2). Chris Worley (anyone not including him in your list should go back and read the last article when he said he's not taking contact from anyone other than tOSU)
3). Mike Mitchell
4). Vonn Bell
5). Dorian Johnson
6). Holland Fisher/ Trey Johnson (have a feeling that if Urban wants a speedy Southern LBer, he will get one. Hired a GA just for this purpose.)
7). Ryan Timmons

The last two spots can just as easily be Quick and Hatcher.

Not having Stevens on your list is a mistake imo. If the staff wants him I think he is a Buckeye. And I hope the staff wants him because he looks incredibly gifted to me.

Stevens is a possibility for sure. There's a couple of other names that people can argue should be in, but I'm just listing the ones I think will be in.

Not seen anything yet to believe that Dorian Johnson will be a Buckeye. Not saying he won't be one, just that I haven't seen anything to make me think he will.

If I'm guessing reading the tea leaves:
Shelton Gibson
Chris Worley
Tony Stevens
Mike Mitchell
Vonn Bell.

I think I put that in order my confidence. Though you could switch Worely and Gibson and I wouldn't argue.

22 is too low at this point with having 21 spots in October. Even if Hankins stays, the class will still likely be 23-24. Could easily see it getting to 25 again.

I certainly am ready to see what Meyer can do with this space and expecting to pass Michigan and have a top 3 class this year.

The loss of 3 is versus the 85 total scholarship number, not the yearly signing of 25. We cannot surpass 82 total scholarships.

Early enrollees count back to last year's class.

I'm not entirely sure if this is how it goes, and if my numbers are 100% correct, but I believe we can do something like this:

We had 25 in last class, and I believe had 7 early enrollees. I think that means we had 18 officially in last year's class. The penalties began with the 2012 class, so I'm pretty sure we could have as many as 4 EE again this year, meaning the class could technically get to 25-26.

In my IMHO, I'm thinking 23 is a pretty safe bet right now.

Gibson
Stevens
Bell (I reallly hope...definitely my favorite guy we are recruiting).
Mitchell

That would leave us 2 more spots. Quick is in if he wants it, imo. Worley may be in. The same for Munger. Then there are the linebackers we are still pursuing, of which I think the Auburn commit (can't think of his name) is probably our best shot as things stand.

While it looks like we're all in for Johnson at tackle & Bell at safety don't forget about the opportunities that arise with coaching changes. If Johnson decides Pitt is the place for him I'm willing to bet OSU is in the thick of it for any tackle prospects who are committed to programs who undergo coaching upheaval.
