While I agree with CB and Rugby, I'm chuckling at opposing defensive coaches looking at Iowa (a better defense than what they possess)......then looking at the 47 offensive points we scored on them.......then thinking "yeah.....let's copy what they did!"
It is pick your poison between selling out to stop the pass (Rutgers) and selling out to stop the run (Iowa). The only mildly concerning thing is that sometimes it takes the coaches too long* to switch up to whatever the defense isn’t focusing on.

Totally agree... when our coaches are confused it generally takes them until half time to get everything in order.

TCU in 2018, Wisconsin in 2019 x2, North Western in 2020, ttun in 2021 and now Iowa in 2022. Unfortunately for the game in 2021 the defense couldn't hold up for our offense to get things straightened out.

You have to think with our defense at least we are afforded some time to get things corrected.

I think this is a good point. The improvements sustained by the defense completely changes the offenses margin for error. Last year the O had to be perfect or all bets were off. This D says, hey... 3 touchdowns will do it.

I don't think they're just confused for an entire half. I think it takes a level of communication that isn't possible until halftime. That might just be my wishful thinking.

I don't buy that. with the technology they have these days, they should be able to communicate through the headset and share images on an ipad of what type of look the defense is giving them and be able to make in-game adjustments on the fly and between drives. In-depth conversations and adjustments to clear it up at the half may be needed, but it shouldn't take an entire half of football to adjust if an opposing team is giving you a different look than anticipated..... a la the Bear front vs VT when they never were able to make the proper adjustments.

But what do I know? I'm just a fan with an opinion.

I would suggest giving Kevin Wilson’s presser a listen/watch if you’ve the leisure. He offers insight into how communication goes via headset during games.

I don’t know how many minutes the average drive lasts in CFB, but based on what Wilson said you don’t have a lot of time to have really lengthy exchanges. If the offense is on the field, you’re not talking during plays and in between you’ve to focus on making a call at a high velocity.

it’s interesting; not saying anything is right or wrong but his spiel about it was really interesting and insightful.

It's more than just saying "Hey, they are running a 2 high safety and switching it up to a Cloud coverage at the snap..." or some such shit. It's tendencies, personnel and the strategy to take going forward. Thats why it takes a while to have a real conversation without having to concentrate on another play upcoming. They can do some things sure but it also takes the other team running enough plays to show their tendencies and personnel packages. The Buckeye Offense and Defense has a say in how quickly we can adjust fully. When we score in 3 plays or less it doesn't quite give the Defense time to change so it might take until halftime to get enough info to go on. Obvious changes can be made though almost immediately.

That made me think. They probably adjust during other team playing on offense. But with Iowas drives lasting so short it probably didn't give them much time to talk about it

I mean not many teams have an absolutely disastrous offense like Iowa does though. They genuinely would've been better off just handing the ball off to a RB every single play than...whatever they were trying to do last Saturday. Probably would've resulted in a 34-10 or even a 28-10 game than they beating they took.
