tOSU Linebackers History (Merged)

nice post, thats understandable but that also does prove a point, if you dont know much about FSU's, Virginias, and whoever elses linebacking core than they obviously cant be the best in the country, people know aj hawk, people know bobby carpenter. Its hard to explain what im trying 2 get across, but if lets say Virginia had the best linebackers in the nation then we would hear and know a whole lot more than we do about them. I know people can say yeah well Greenway and Hodge are better known than Hawk and Carpenter, but then they could say, who is iowa's third linebacker?more people would ask who is iowas third linebacker then would ask who is ohio states third linebacker, because osu linebackers are better known, more people are going to know who mike d'andrea and anthony schlegel over edmond miles.

im not taking anything away from these guys though, its just one or two good linebackers doesnt make the whole unit the top of the list

Sims and Nicholson(FSU)
Ahmad Brooks(Virginia)
Greenway and Hodge(Iowa)

People don't know Bobby Carpenter....that's a reach. I'm not taking anything away from him...he's a beast...but A.J. Hawk is the only nationally known linebacker that tOSU has. Many people who don't know much about the Big 10 know his name...but I don't think the same could be said about Carpenter. Also, just because a guy is known, doesn't mean he is better.

We have talent at LB. I haven't met an OSU fan that would want to trade what we have for what any other school in the country has. I'm sure there are other schools that feel the same way about their LBs. You can never have a clear cut BEST group before the season starts. But if you are mentioned by some as the best...then for me, that's good enough. I think you could make a case for us having the best group of recievers in the country too. It's not clear cut, but we are definitely up there. Some people also may think our secondary is up there too. If we find somebody else to play CB...i'd agree.

this may be off topic but look at how many stud backers the big ten has this year.

Aj. hawk, Bobby carpenter, Dan Connor, Paul Posluszny, Abdul Hodge, Chad Greenway, LaMarr Woodley, Kyle Killion, Tim McGarigle, you can also throw in schlegel

Buckeye Linebackers - 2004/05

OSUAlum82 is stirring the pot, and hawkeye fans are going crazy...

here's the best post so far:
As to the "scoreboard" post: OSU's record against the Hawkeyes is 42-14-3.... not sure but I think that's pretty good. Congrats on last year's win, it was a pretty good whippin'.

BTW, you also have losing series records to Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minny, Penn St., and Purdue. Series tied with Wisky. 2 game lead over MSU, and you've kicked the crap out of Northwestern. Wow..... I looked this up just to defend our program, but really found out just how bad you guys have been over the years..... You have a series lead on TWO BIG10 teams?????? TWO???????? Good luck with Wisky this year so you can push that to a whopping 3 teams in the Big11 you can talk crap to.....and 2 of those teams would pretty much be at 50/50 with you (MSU 19-17-2)......... So actually you can say that you guys have been consistently better than Northwestern.... and I guess that's saying something.

'02-04 has been the best run in the history of Iowa football... they've never won a National Title and have like 8 Big Ten Titles in their history...
freaking Indiana owns their ass... :slappy:

at any rate, a page or so later, Phishhead chimed in with:
"shoo, little hawkeyes. shoo. go bother the people on the N-western board. you own them."

Iowa's all-time records against Big Ten teams:

Illinois: 26-37-2 (.415)
Indiana: 37-25-4 (.591)
Michigan: 10-38-4 (.231)
Michigan State: 19-17-2 (.526)
Minnesota: 38-58-2 (.398)
Northwestern: 45-18-3 (.705)
Ohio State: 14-42-3 (.263)
Penn State: 9-10-0 (.474)
Purdue: 30-44-3 (.409)
Wisconsin: 39-39-2 (.500)

As shown above, Iowa leads Indiana all-time, not the other way around, so OSUAlum82 was wrong in that area.

hmm... you are correct, sir... i don't think that Alum82 posted that, but either way, whomever did was incorrect... that makes my last post look pretty stupid though... :o

alum82 was killing the hawkeyes. he was saying that Greenway might not see the field if he was in the Scarlet and Gray... that drove them nuts...

personally, i don't see him as a MLB, especially the way that Schlegs closed the season... and he sure as shit wouldn't start ahead of Hawk or Carp...

at any rate, let's see how he does this season with a new DL in front of him... we all know that the best LBs in the world don't help if the DL can't hold their own...

what a stupid, worthless thread. making fun of iowa because, historically, they haven't been that good? who the fuck cares? in my opinion, the only history that really matters is what has taken place under the current coach. it's ironic that we are making fun of hawkeye fans and their all-time records, yet if a michigan fan were to come talking about how they are up 20 games on us we'd just respond with "3-1".

ferentz is a fantastic coach and quite frankly, the iowa game scares the shit out of me. i know we'll kill texas, but iowa? very very scary....ferentz will have a gameplan. it will be tight. and when you consider how well iowa has done the last 3 years, with 3 different QBs, different players coming in and out, few of them being highly-recruited....it just shows you how great of a coach ferentz is. his success hasn't been due to one great player, or one great class. he has taken average talent and won, and has adapted his team's style of play quite well with the different talent that he had each year. now, he is starting to bring in great recruiting classes. i think we'll get him this year because the game is early and their d-line will be hurting, but as far as the near future is concerned? they are going to be a serious, SERIOUS threat. As long as ferentz is there, iowa will be a perennial contender for the big ten crown, and i honestly feel that they will win a national championship before it's all said and done.

but yeah, make fun of them because they lost in 1966 to indiana.

Good post, I agree with you. Ferentz is a fantastic coach, and has that program on the rise. They kind of remind me of a Wisconsin........they'll emerge for 5-10 years, and fall back into mediocrity. I personally see Ferentz in the NFL at some point, he is excellent at developing offensive lineman.

If it were my decision, Iowa would be the team removed from the Big10 to get back to 10 teams: geographically they make the least sense in what has become a Great Lakes-states conference, and would be more appropriate lined up with their instate rival in the Big12; then they could boot Baylor and make that "Big" mean something again. Besides wrestling, Iowa doesn't have any real great sports tradition that the Big10 would miss terribly, and besides Ferentz there's no real reason for longterm optimism for their football success.

Don't take this the wrong way, I have nothing against Iowa; but objectively Iowa has always made the least sense to me in the Big10 since Penn State joined. Being subjective I would instead catapult hated Wisconsin into the deep reaches of space...

Wow, that's out of left field. This seems to be the "random ideas about Iowa" thread. Well, here's my 2 cents: I think we should all be required to drive through Iowa. Everybody..not just us here on BP. That way, when you get home, you'll appreciate every little hill, mound, and bump that you see in Ohio (or where ever you are).

Also, I think Iowa should be FORCED to change their name to the Bonethrowers. I don't really know why. I just know that "Hawkeyes" is just too damn similar to "Buckeyes".

As far as making fun of Iowa goes. I would definitely bring up last year's pounding if I was a Bonethrower fan. Who gives a rat's ass about the other 60+ games? Which team do you honestly think is looking for revenge this year? Iowa? Don't think so, bub. The players could care less about the series lead. They just care about the ass-spanking that was administered last year. The Buckeyes better be pumped for this one, DAMMIT!

Suck it, Trebeck!
