tOSU Linebackers History (Merged)

I have heard rumors that Terry could evolve into an OLB instead of his HS position at DE.

No rumor to him switching, Terry has been playing LB all year.

Someone else mentioned Lukens as a possibility, but he said himself just a few weeks ago that he was switched back to safety.

We're gonna be just fine.

Terry played on special teams last year and was in on a butt load of tackles, so that shows to me he has the speed and mobility to be a LB. He was listed at 6'2", 205 at the beginning of the season, so unless he packs on about 50-60 pounds, he won't be at DE. Conversely, he could easily gain 15-35 pounds to get to 220-240, with that blazing 21.7 200m speed, and be a monster LB. In fact, he's listed at LB on his bio page.

Hoobler, Freeman, and Terry could be great ones at LB.

i believe the problem was terry couldnt put on the weight...he just couldnt, they kept trying and he wouldnt gain anymore...rumor had it he was at 225ish and began to look a little sluggish (note rumor has it) i believe he was quoted as saying 215 is supposedly his ideal weihgt

best linebackers in the country

i dont know if this is enough to start a new thread but ive been wondering this.

in my mind ohio state undoubtedly have by far the best linebackers in the country.

aj hawk, bobby carpenter, mike d'andrea, anthony schlegel, and marcus freeman are all studs, with talk of hoobler being a beast to. also john kerr hasnt seen the field but alot of people were excited when he transfered here last year, i dont know what the story is on him but hes also capable

ive seen maybe 4 websites and bought probably 4 magazines, and of those 8 sources only 2 have had the buckeyes as best lb's in the nation.

ive seen virginia, florida state, and iowa all with top-ranked lb's

my question is can anyone explain why any of these teams could be ranked ahead of us? and if you do think any team in the nation actually does have better linebackers than us, than explain why u think that and what u have it based on?

sorry if theres already a thread on this or if this thread isnt capable.

The only answer I can think of is that these mags are interested in providing some degree of hype for these programs. Kind of like Dennis Dodd and his stupid assed Stadium thingy last year - or was it 2 years ago now?

There are only two schools who should be considered for the top corps in the nation, and that's Ohio State and Iowa. Ohio State, in my view, wins mostly due to depth.

You can make a case for Hodge & Greenway as the best tandem. Other schools have good tandems as well... but nobody can even dream of sniffing our depth chart. Freeman and D'Andrea would start anywhere else in the country. Our young guns like Hoobler, Terry and others should develop nicely as well.

We will have to reload next year, but after we land Homan, Gibson, Moeller the rich will have become richer.

Indeed. I dont' remember hawk having a bad game (Schlegel/MDA... even carp a little... had a few missed tackles and such) all year. But early on they were useless without a useful DL. Iowa's DL last year was ferocious, they will struggle against us but probably grow up in time for UM.

bobby carpenter(255) is as big as iowas second starting defensive tackle, Matt Kroul(256), i believe that their line has 3 sophomores and one redshirt freshman projected as starters this year, i think greenway and hodge have a drop off because it doesnt matter how good of a linebacker you are if your d-line cant keep the blockers off you its going to be tuff.

National View

All,

I'm an OSU homer like all of you, but I just don't see enough of other schools to be able to judge how other schools compare, especially those teams outside of the B10. Like many of you, I rely on national publications, plus the select other games I see throughout the year. Plain truth is that I barely know how Iowa and UM's LBs stack up vs. ours, let alone VTech. Therefore, if a national publication rates some other teams' LBs as a better unit, I'm not in a position to argue.

That said, I wouldn't trade our LBs with any other unit in the country. These guys are gonna shut down that QB from Texas.
