He travelled 4 times zones to play as the villain against his hometown team in a prime time nationally televised game on network TV in the rain, after dealing with two weeks of "fans" of his team and national media questioning whether he should start, or if he was even talented enough to be on the roster, insinuating he is only starting because of racism and questioning his skill set as a QB. Even though he is a true freshman who thought he would sit, develop and not see a meaningful snap for 2 or 3 years, making his first ever college start and thrust into the spotlight due to a freak injury to QB1 and QB2, who everyone planned on being the backup, being a disappointment and not being able to grasp basic concepts.
Considering the adversity he faced and how awful the gameplan was, I think 260 yards, 55% completion, 7 points (14 if the corrupt Big Ten refs didn't call back his first one) and zero turnovers was great for a first start. Hell, only taking 2 sacks is almost a miracle seeing how often he was running for his life behind a destitute offensive who were responsible for ending our Heisman finalist QB's season (and maybe career) just a couple weeks ago.
He absolutely did enough to win the game. And probably would have it the defense didn't shit itself orz ironically, if the OC out the ball in his hands more instead of running it 2/3 of the time through the first three quarters.
And it's unfortunate that he's going to take the blame for the loss and receive an absurd amount of online abuse from a bunch of yokels who don't know anything about football. And most of it will just be because the guy behind him on the depth chart is from Ohio. And idiots pretend they don't understand the quality difference between one guy leading a winning D1 football team in one of the best regions of the country from his Sophomore season on and the other putting up some yards against D3 farm boys in Ohio and his team still sucking ass and winning jack shit. Or maybe they're dumb and not pretending.
