Game Thread tOSU at USC, Sat. Oct. 31st, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

I have a lot of so called "irrational emotional" criticism of day but saying he's worse than Cooper is comical. Day is just the new "Big Game" Bob Stoops. It could be worse I guess.
The UCLA coach better win it all, or we could have a sport with literally no great coaches according to some. I'd still like to see a universe / Kirby's resume without OSU wrs dying.

Go grasp context.
that tonight was mean and that's an inspiration to all sorts of whoppers, no matter how self destructive m?

You're talking about him like OSU fans do about Penn State QBs. Feel free to offer up any justification for that at all, because it's a pretty bad look.

Here I was thinking Luke handled the moment, duress and challenges quite calmly and kept fighting and firing.

Ryan Day

  • Day described the loss as “extremely frustrating.”
  • He blamed the loss on “too many penalties” on failing to execute in the red zone.
  • On Luke Fahey: “I think for Luke, he competed. It wasn’t perfect,” but Day noted that there were a lot of drops.
  • Day thought the defensive struggles boiled down to “three or four” explosive plays. “That’s the story there.”
  • Day thought the Buckeyes played with good attitude, but there were “just way too many mistakes.”
  • Day said Jay Timmons probably could have played the week before the Indiana game, but they held him out trying to keep him healthy, and he re-tweaked his injury against the Hoosiers. Day said Timmons “tried like heck” to get back for this game, but the medical staff decided it wouldn’t be smart for him to play.
  • “Not having Jay had an impact, there’s no question. But at the end of the day, as a team, we weren’t able – to me – to play well enough to support a young freshman quarterback who was making his first start on the road.”
  • Asked about the lack of tempo on offense earlier in the game, Day said the Buckeyes didn’t want to panic and go into their tempo offense until they had no choice when they were down by two scores in the fourth quarter.

RT Austin Siereveld

  • Siereveld said he was “still getting my legs under me” in his first game back from illness.
  • Siereveld thought Fahey played well for his first start.
  • “We just have to keep fighting,” Siereveld said of how the team moves forward after its second loss. “Our backs are against the wall, and we’ll just keep fighting, keep swinging.”
  • On the red zone struggles: “We just didn’t execute like we wanted to.”

TE Mason Williams

  • On Luke Fahey: “I don‘t think we could have expected anything better from Luke today. He went out there, and he battled his butt off.”
  • Do you feel like you let Luke down tonight? “I wouldn‘t say that’s the right word. We definitely could have helped him out a little more.”
  • Williams said Fahey was the most composed player in the huddle. “He commands the huddle really well.”
  • Williams said the Buckeyes’ backs are against the wall, but they’re going to keep fighting.

S Jaylen McClain

  • McClain felt the Buckeyes didn‘t give good enough effort on Trent Mosley’s touchdown on the second play of the game.
  • On Ohio State’s defensive play: “Lack of focus, discipline and execution on our end. They didn’t do anything special, we just gotta execute better ... There’s nobody to blame, we just gotta be better.”
  • On how the Buckeyes move forward: “We just gotta watch the film, flush it and move on.”
  • Are the Buckeyes’ backs against the wall? “If you have two losses in college football, your backs are going to be against the wall, but we just gotta finish the season.”
  • “We just gotta be better. They were better than us today.”
  • On the absence of Jay Timmons: “At the end of the day, whoever’s in the game, competitive excellence, gotta make that play when their number’s called.”

Lol. Nope. That's not at all what I was saying. Keep trying to grasp it though.

Can't call a loss a fluke when you were never within 1 possession in the 2nd half. Also a game when you trailed for 59:30 minutes.

It was a total beatdown. At no time did you think "Ohio State is going to win this game." Never

The stats mean nothing.
Disagree.

I think part of the reason we're seeing the frustrated and emotional outbursts is because it WASN'T a total beatdown. If they don't shoot themselves repeatedly in the dick, things look different. If they just make the tackles that are there in front of them, things look different.

They didn't, and it doesn't change what ended up being the final.

Being completely dominated means they never had a chance. There's a prime example of that in 2008 against USC if you care to look. If that's what you came away with from watching that game tonight, you didn't understand what you were seeing.

I didn’t come in expecting to win.

I came in expecting that a freshman QB gains some invaluable experience on a big stage in his first start. That matters more than anything going forward.

There wasn’t anything other than that on the line in this game.

It sucks to lose but a Buckeye takes the lumps and moves forward.

Worst time to have a west coast road trip. USC coming of an embarrassing performance and Fahey needed a home game as introduction to the job and a new game plan. He wasn’t the problem, but the passing game was hampered (as one would expect). He did look more comfortable in the 4th, and is mobile and with pocket awareness. He’s far ahead of most freshman.

The running game was a happy surprise, but still needs to turn 1-2 chunk plays into TDs. Won’t happen without Bey breaking out.

This team is missing another 1-2 playmakers on either side of the ball to compete for a title. They can still play with most by building on the running game and refining the passing attack.

Yeah completely dominated is the NC vs Bama with fields and sermon hurt and LBs chasing Smith.

This was pure unadulterated fuckball.

That's a stat line that says Ohio State should have won fairly comfortably. They didn't and infact lost in a frustrating an inexcusable way. Penalties is one reason - 3 false starts in the red zone, 3 other false starts in 3rd and short that made them 3rd and longer.

One thing that was a theme in 2024 (with one huge exception against TCUN) and for most of 2025 until the Indiana and Miami games was efficiency. The numbers say this should have been a comfortable win with the offense, but I don't think anyone would say it was remotely efficient.

And the defensive side was and is a problem. Again. If you buy that the Illinois defense was a schematic thing they "fixed", then what the hell was tonight? The middle of the defense was tissue paper soft all night long. And yeah, the tackling was garbage too. Like I've said a few times tonight I really want to see how many actual broken tackles there were and what the total yards after contact end up being because I'm fairly certain more than half of USC's total yards came after contact tonight.
Next week will be telling. The D has bounced back pretty good after getting exposed.

Fahey is not in sync with the WR's yet, and is either throwing it too hard or too soft.

Next year he will most likely be a lot better, but right now it's kind of ugly.
