Game Thread tOSU at USC, Sat. Oct. 31st, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

He got sacked on a huge play. He slowed down as a guy was chasing him and got hammered. Lucky to not fumble. But no he wasn't a statue and did climb the pocket well several times.
Okay, yes I forgot that one sack. I think part of that’s coaching to keep his eyes down the field.

Not dissing Julian, but he gets sacked 3-5 times in that game.

Smith calls the plays. Reality is most of the routes we run are long developing. They bitch about YACs, but if you don’t get the ball in your play maker’s hands you’re not going to get YACs. We should have seen more quick throws to the WRs today.

Just sayin': Yeah, you make a good point, those WR screen passes (overall) didn't go anywhere. Some quick slants hitting a WR on the run over the middle might have gone for more YAC. You look at the overall offensive stats (below) and you might think Ohio State won the game. One big difference was Fahey had 17 incompletions and Maiava had only 7. Several of those Fahey's incompletions should have been caught and a few were just bad passes to an open receiver. Ohio State didn't help themselves with several of those penalties either.

1. Fairly balanced: 38 passes and 43 runs
2. Running game was pretty good. Bo Jackson might have his best game this season, 21 carries, 121 yards, 5.8 ave. yards per carry. Ohio State had 204 yards total rushing , USC only had 116.
3. Ohio State actually had more receiving yards too. 260 to 222.
4. Both teams had 1 turnover. First game that I remember of having 3 interceptions reversed because their heel was out of bounds.

Slants, crossers, little picks, quick outs for 5-10 to Smith. Miss our Captain 0 too.

No, but when you're starting a true freshman on the road, for his first start, you have to do everything you can to stop th other team from scoring 20 in a half....
By this logic, why don't we just start true freshman on the road every game? The D will just be better somehow.

It doesn't feel realistic to expect performing above abilities just because the backup QB gets the nod.

Just think, Fahey is allegedly better than TSC, and has "moxie" to boot, lol!!!!!!!!!!!!

He travelled 4 times zones to play as the villain against his hometown team in a prime time nationally televised game on network TV in the rain, after dealing with two weeks of "fans" of his team and national media questioning whether he should start, or if he was even talented enough to be on the roster, insinuating he is only starting because of racism and questioning his skill set as a QB. Even though he is a true freshman who thought he would sit, develop and not see a meaningful snap for 2 or 3 years, making his first ever college start and thrust into the spotlight due to a freak injury to QB1 and QB2, who everyone planned on being the backup, being a disappointment and not being able to grasp basic concepts.

Considering the adversity he faced and how awful the gameplan was, I think 260 yards, 55% completion, 7 points (14 if the corrupt Big Ten refs didn't call back his first one) and zero turnovers was great for a first start. Hell, only taking 2 sacks is almost a miracle seeing how often he was running for his life behind a destitute offensive who were responsible for ending our Heisman finalist QB's season (and maybe career) just a couple weeks ago.

He absolutely did enough to win the game. And probably would have it the defense didn't shit itself orz ironically, if the OC out the ball in his hands more instead of running it 2/3 of the time through the first three quarters.

And it's unfortunate that he's going to take the blame for the loss and receive an absurd amount of online abuse from a bunch of yokels who don't know anything about football. And most of it will just be because the guy behind him on the depth chart is from Ohio. And idiots pretend they don't understand the quality difference between one guy leading a winning D1 football team in one of the best regions of the country from his Sophomore season on and the other putting up some yards against D3 farm boys in Ohio and his team still sucking ass and winning jack shit. Or maybe they're dumb and not pretending.

It's not that serious, as I said in other posts this is pretty much what I expected from this team. It's not a natty level team, so no matter if TSC or Fahey started, it's not a big let down to me. I don't blame Fahey, the entire team just isn't that good to be on a journey to a natty. I am interested though in seeing what happens moving forward. Lots of things could happen from here on out, I'll just put that out there.

What game were you watching to justify this little snipe about him having moxie? Luke was considerably calmer under duress than Julian usually is.

I'm not going to ask what your justification for the tsc reference is

That era is long gone. Craig Krenzel can't win in 2026. Even so, Jim Tressel had Krenzel run the ball.

Fahey is supposedly mobile compared to Sayin. Did we see that at all? Nope.
what exactly are you wanting on the mobility front?
Day is no Tressell. He's not even as good as Cooper.
Well we have a front runner for the most absurd emotional outburst of the night.
