I love #36 but he was dead wrong about the holding call on the punt.

The long snapper on the punt is not firing out at anyone's knees. He is trying to get down field and cover. If an outside guy grabbed a gunner by the shoulder pads and brought him down with his own momentum as he ran forward it would be called every time (well maybe not in the B1G but that's not the point). The point is, after the snap the long snapper holds a block (if necessary) for about a 1/1000 count then busts it down field to cover the punt so if he was firing out it wasn't to block anyone. It was to release from the line and cover the punt. Riding him to the ground is the very definition of defensive holding.

It was the right call.

I said pretty much the same thing during the game when the announcers said it was a bad call. Why in the hell would anyone on Ohio State's line be going after a players legs on a punt? They need to get down field to cover the punt, so blocking low would be idiotic and never taught. From my view it was pretty clear the PSU guy grabbed him and dragged him down.

Not to mention the whole rule that says that the long snapper can't be touched for a full second after snapping the ball if a kick is taking place.

Actually, it wasn't the right call. Roughing the center was the proper call. Regardless....first down.

There is no time limit. Can't touch him while his head is down.
