Game Thread tOSU at NW'ern, Oct 5, 8 ET, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2

Got to call the baby ugly tonight.

Braxton had three turnovers and didn't look in control at all. The fumble he had in the first quarter was the same fumble he had last week against wisky. Two steps back tonight.

Hyde looked as advertised and did what was asked. As did the OLine.

Passing defense sticking with zone coverage and likes to play way out of position. Don't understand this coverage scheme at all.

Not an impressive win, should never have been down as much as we were. Just no spark anywhere on the team except ST.

I wouldn't worry about that. NW brought everything they had to give to the table and nearly won the game. I don't know if they'll lose a game the rest of the way unless it's next week against Wisky...
Just sayin' ... Bucks "underperformed" and the kitties "overperformed" but Buckeyes still win, on the road, at night, against a previously unbeaten, ranked team.

"... and" this team is pretty good, and "deserving of its lofty ranking", because despite not playing to their potential against a good team playing "above" its potential, this team wins.
"AND ... part 2" "Winning isn't everything, its the ONLY thing." - Vince Lombardi To hell with style points.

the defense is going to have to improve a whole hell of a lot before I'm going to say they are worthy of a top-5 ranking or being an NC-worthy contender. Yes it was a nice comeback win, however, there was a lot of holes on the defense, especially in the secondary, that would have been exploited more fully by anyone in the top-9 or so.

But that's exactly my point. NW, and Wisky last week, DID exploit those holes and weaknesses, and I would say JUST AS WELL as any top ten team could have, if not better, but this team still won both games.

Then you need to watch. They beat Wisconsin sure, but they got damned lucky tonight. Sometimes that's a good thing, but the bad coverages and breakdown patterns on this defense are still there. That has to change going forward for this team to reach it's full potential. There was NOTHING good about how the secondary played tonight outside of ONE play by Dorian Grant.

I give Northwestern (i.e. team, coaches, and fans too) a lot of credit, NW was "not in awe" of Ohio State, came ready to play, and played tough the entire 60 minutes. In the end "the cream came to the top" and Ohio State won; but let's face it, Ohio State didn't dominate and the difference in the game boiled down to just one or two "key" plays.

I think Northwestern is for real (at least this year) and would not be surprised if we play them again on 6 Dec 2013.
